Thoughts after 3 months with my Band

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks;

Well it's been 3 months and yesterday I was coming down the stairs and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I had to sit down on the stairs.

My lap band, in spite of all the adjustments I have had to make eating wise, has finally given me my dream. My dream was to finally not be fixated on food. I suddenly realized how much time and energy I have expended over the years thinking about food and diet- being on a diet, going on a diet, screwing up my diet, fighting overwhelming cravings.

When I was walking down the stairs, I realized I was hungry and hadn't eaten much yet. I was floored by how normal that seemed. I could go to the kitchen and eat a bit, not being afraid I'd gobble everything in sight.

Yes I'm still on a diet and going to Weight Watchers and walk daily but it such a joy to just follow the diet and not have the constant struggle with myself and cravings.

I lose 2 lbs a week pretty consistently. Some days I am hungry and I eat little more --then the next day I'm usually not hungry so I eat less. What joy!

I'm not totally sure but I think this is how regular people are. I asked my friend who has never been on a diet (Yikes!) and she said yes that's how she eats. She does not know the calories in any foods and does not care.

I know the Band is a pain to get used to but once it works and you accept the limitations and eat healthfully most of the time, it is a blessing. For the first time in my life, I know I will lose my excess weight and keep it off.

I thought I'd post this because there are lots of posts about problems with the Band. Here is a success story.

Love and success on all our journeys-

Sadie

This is exactly how I feel about my almost five months with the band. It has taken away the anxiety and obsessing about food. I have been on a diet or a binge for my whole life and the band has for the first time allowed me to put food in its place. A PART of my life, not the central thought and driving force.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I don't worry about a week when I stay the same because I trust that if I keep doing what I do, eat healthfully 95 percent of the time and work-out at least 30 minutes every day that, in time, all my excess weight will come off.

I appreciate your post, I had not thought about the idea that the band has allowed me to begin living my life as a non-food obsessed person.

Thank you for introducing me to a different way to think about these changes.

Lanie

I am only in my 3rd week with the band but I too realize that I am not constantly fixated on food anymore. Today the office had a birthday celebration with all the wrong things for me, I was able to eat some of my mushies right along with everyone else and not feel like I was missing out on anything. I am so thankful for lapband. I wish I would have done it years ago.

I love to read stories like this. It does help me remember on bad days that it is an aye feeling. Today for lunch I tried to eat some chinese food and then after about 4 bites spent the lunch break in my car wondering if it was going to come up......the pain!!! But it went away after about 30 min and I am soooooo hungry now. But when I go to be tonight I will be glad I didn't overeat like I used too and be thankful for the excess calories I DID NOT EAT TODAY!!! Yah I love my band even though at times it is frustrating. It is funny how different you look at food now..........but in a good way. The way we were tought but couldn't control. Protein FIRST Veggies SECOND Carbs LAST

I usually am totally stuffed by Veggies so GOOD BYE BAD CARBS!!!!

It is a peace of mind that is so AYE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HI, it will be three months for me on June 3. I too love what the band has done for me. For once, I am not always obsessing about food. One of the woman in work brought in homemade cupcakes today. I did not have one and didn't even crave them. Before banding I would have obsessed over them all day and would have eaten at least 3. I'm trying hard to stick to the Protein and veggies. The weight is coming off slowly now but I'm all right with that. I've been walking 45 minutes a day. I feel so much better mentally and physically.

i think the band was the best thing I did for myself. I wish i had done it sooner.:drool::crying:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair. Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end. That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
