I was banded on February 19th, 2008. In the first month I lost 15 lbs. After losing the first 15 lbs, I only lost 1 lb when I saw Dr. Abkin in the six week follow=up. I was disappointed, but I knew the lap band was not stopping my hunger. I had my first band adjustment May 20th, 2008. I'm hoping the adjustment will curb my hunger. Has anyone else had this problem?:crying:

It may take several fills before the lapband does what you want it to do. Be patient. Give it a couple of weeks and if things aren't better-call your dr. I think many people need 2 or three fills to get enough restriction.

Be good to yourself!

99% of us have had that problem. I just had fill # 7. Fill number five I started to feel restriction and I noticed I could eat less, but I still can eat more than a cup of food. This journey is truly a process! It is definitely not easy. I won't preach that the band is a tool and you have to make it work for you ...yadda,yadda, yadda, but our journey will be a long one and I am confident that in the end it will be one worth traveling. Good Luck.

My magic fill was month #4! They warned me that it could take up to 6 fills to get the right amount. I know it's dumb to say (because I was horribly depressed during the 4 months) but try not to worry too much about the weight loss. Use this time to try maintaining where you are, and perhaps trying to exercise a little. Anything to start shaving off some of those calories. :crying:

MBA, I lost 15 lbs pre surgury on Optifast and within 2 weeks of surgery gained 5 lbs. The good news is though that I have not gained any more weight back! I go for my first fill tomorrow so hopefully that will help. I knew this journey would take effort on my part but I was still hoping for some 'magic'. Not happening! I am pleased with not having gained anymore weight now that I am eating solids though. I will probably be one of the 'slow losers' but that is ok as long as it comes off! My head is finally coming around to the fact that the band is only a tool - yes I knew this going in but again hoped for 'magic' and I have to work with it. Best of luck!

It takes quite a few fills to get good restriction so you need to be patient. Keep going back until your meals last several hours. Good luck.

i was eating so much that I thought my band was not in.

I'm not filled yet (just banded) and I won't be filled until June 26th. :w00t: I know I can eat a lot right now, but I'm not doing so. I refuse to allow myself to eat any more than the recommend 3-4 ounces, 5-6 times per day. Even though I'm hungry I'm not giving in.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
