Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I'm sceduled July 11 to be banded at Plano Baylor by Dr. Nicholson. Anyone in the Dallas area been banded by him? I'm getting anxious & nervous about the surgery. I hope I have as good a luck as the majority of people on this forum has had.

Thanks,

Waynette Stone

Hi-

I was just banded by Dr. Nick last Thursday the 26th of June. He is really great. He talked with me about where to put my port, and my surgery went very well. My Mom and best friend were really impressed with him and his staff. I had the surgery in Garland since I was a self pay and I felt like they rushed me a little bit since they were behind. One of the staff at the Garland center had had a lap band and came back to talk to me (let me feel her port and see her scars, etc. which was really really nice of her).

Good luck to you!!! I'm sure you will do really well. The main pain is the gas, but it's not constant and can be relieved with GAS-X strips and walking around a bit.

Thank you for the reply. I've only met Dr. Nicholson once and I wanted to talk to someone that had used him and see if they liked him. I'm glad to hear that you and your family liked him that makes me feel better. I'm glad to hear that your surgery went well and your doing well. Mine will be here before I know it.

Thanks,

Waynette

I just saw Dr. Nicholson this afternoon for my 2-week follow-up. So far, so good! I also had surgery in Garland (which was nice, since it was 5 minutes from my house). I'm planning to attend my first support group meeting in Plano next week.

I'm glad your surgery went well. I hope mine will go well also. Did you like having the surgery at a surgery center instead of a hospital? The lab people at Baylor Plano said they thought I would like the surgery center better than the hospital. I've only seen Dr. Nicholson twice. I saw him at the seminar and for the consultation. It seems kind of weird only seeing him twice and he's going to be doing the surgery. I will have to find a support group after my surgery also.

Best of luck with your weight loss journey!!!

The surgery center was fine. I'm self-pay, so that's where I had to go (more expensive to be at the hospital). It was nice that it was so close to home. I just wish the support group meetings could be in Garland, too!

I only met Dr. Nicholson twice before my surgery, as well. I'm curious - do you have to do any pre-op testing? I didn't have any - not even blood work, which I thought was odd. They said it was because of my age and I didn't have anything obvious in my personal medical history. But I have a family history of heart disease and diabetes, so I was surprised they didn't even do blood work.

Good luck!

Hi Marianne,

I had my pre op testing done Thursday. I had to have blood work, Upper GI and EKG. I'm surprised they didn't do any on you even if your young. I was orginally scheduled to have my done at the hospital but the scheduling girl made a mistake and I didn't want to wait longer to have it done. The only way Dr Nicholson could do it this week was to move my surgery to Garland and I agreed to that.

I'm really getting nervous, only 2 days left before surgery. I sure hope my surgery goes as well as yours.

Good luck on your new band and your weight loss journey. Keep in touch and let me know how you are doing.

Waynette

I have Dr. Nick too and I am 28 with no health problems, 236lbs and he ordered pre-op testing for me. That is weird....I wonder if he did it because you were self pay to spare you the extra expense????

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
