Lap Band Surgery in Vancouver Area?

Recommended Posts

Tammy Jan. If you have a blender or a magic bullet, you can make some really nutrious meals. You can blend fruit into a Protein Drink, if you are feeling lightheaded, remember you are to have Protein every 4 waking hours. As you are still on liquids/mushies buy a protein drink from the pharmacy (some brands take awfull) but you can disquise the taste with blended fruit. Don't worry about losing weight at this stage. It is very important that you allow the stomach to heal and scar tissue solidify the band for strength. I found a warm drink of skim milk or warm chicken broth a wonderful soother and appetite supressor.

As for pain in the shoulders, that is gas pains. When the band is put on, the doctor injects gass to blow out the stomach. That has to dissapate so try some "gas X". Another hint I like baby food but most like the magic bullet.

As for the ticker, go to the Home Page of this site and scroll down to Suggestions, feedback & questions. DC that and scroll down to How to get a ticker in your signature. I used PhotoNut and printed out her instructions. They are very clear.

Again, if you go onto my profile (click my picture) you will get my e mail address. If you want support please feel free to contact me.

I don't know whether the Vancouver Island (Victoria) surgeon will do fills for someone from elsewhere but someone in Vancouver does them. His name is Rick Archambault and he works at St. Paul's Hospital on Burrard St. Doddie63 knows all about him, so maybe she'll also reply to your question. Hi, Doddie63, Laura here!

I personally do not use this doctor and would suggest for all details you contact Canadagirl33@hotmail.com

She goes to him. I understand this doctor requires a referral from your doctor and all contact must be made through e mail. Many in our group go to him and think he is the best. Also, I think his name is Arseneau but Canadagirl33 will have the correct information.

Hi,

I'm replying from Las Vegas. It's hot here-106 degrees today! Anyway, I spelled Rick's last name the way it's done in Quebec. He may be from somewhere else, so his name may be spelled differently.

Support meeting went well. We had a guest dietician attend and she gave us some very valuable information and one new member. We tried a new format for the support group. Each person gave their name and gave an issue that they would like some help on. Everyone was involved and personally I thoroughly emjoyed the meeting.

It would be great if some of the bandsters that have not attended in awhile or are contemplating the band could be at our next support group. The more the merrier. The meeting is free.

It would be great Rhonda if at our next meeting we could be told the restrictions if any on the fills and fluro. Could you e mail me privately on these enquiries. Thanks

Doreen

Adjustments for a year included. |We will not be using fluro for every adjustment, but have it if needed.

Rhonda

Hey Doddie and others who seem to post so frequently! My names cat and I live in Burnaby, and I couldn't be happier to see that there are local people who are out there who not only had the surgery, but such success with it too! I'm 26 and getting way too close to 400lbs and have been overweight my entire life (have done the whole yo yo dieting since I was 16). But it's only since having my son last year and enduring far too many physical issues since the pregnancy and birth I've really understood that I need more help than I've been getting with weight loss! My dr actually asked me if I was interested in surgery to aid in my weight loss.. not really an easy conversation to have with someone, but I'm glad she brought it up, since I've been doing research for about 6 months now. I recently got an appointment with the False Creek surgical centre (not until oct), has anyone here been there? Anyway! Just thought I would introduce myself! Hope everyones enjoyin the heat!:)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
