Weigh in... how much have u lost?

Recommended Posts

:confused:Any help, assistance, or comments would be appreciated.... I am worried. I was banded in JUNE. I had one fill July to 2.5cc and then to 4.5cc - I only lost about 15 lbs. as of mid August ----- NO RESTRICTION. Today, after being gone for a month oversees I came back to get another fill - I'd lost NO weight since my last fill and in fact gained back 3 lbs. so I am at only 12 lbs or so LOST. So today he said he filled me to 9cc - I asked ... "my god, how much more can you put in there? and he said you have a big band - 20cc... this is after I got a huge lecture on that I wasn't supposed to be eating anything, I wasn't controlling portions, and that I had probably lost all the weight I was going to loose, etc., etc., - he basically scolded me the whole time. I told him I had no restriction and he commented that I wasn't supposed to, that first I needed to not eat more than a few bites at each meal. I am totally frustrated and confused. I have had no control over my portions, I admit it, but I have had no restriction at all to help me out. He is basically telling me that my band is working because I won't stop eating. HELP HELP HELP.... what can I do now? I now feel HUGE restriction and am sipping everything and I definatly feel a difference. Do you think he is just trying to get me motivated? Is it normal to NOT have restriction and NOT loose weight during the first few fills. I feel like a big failure - PLEASE HELP!!

hopefulebndr, the restriction part doesn't really happen until we reach our sweet sopt. Until then, it's vital that WE ourselves restrict what we eat. My doc, his nurse, and his nutritionist all stressed before banding that we have to work it ourselves first. And that can take 5-6mos per their say. I'm almost 6mos with 4.5 in a 10cc band and I have to say I now understand what they meant by that. I could eat to my heart's content due to lack of restriction. I have yet to even PB or slime. I have worked very hard for the 76lbs I've lost, making myself stick to only 1/2 to 3/4 cup each meal. Now this may not be your issue at hand, but just a friendly reminder...we have to work the band first ourselves before we can rely on that restriction.

hopefulebndr such is the frustration of having this band. If we could control our eating we would be thin without the band! I too struggled with portion size and until I had restriction it was almost impossible, again if I had that will power I wouldn't have gotten a band. You have such a large band it's going to take a few more fills to get that needed restriction. Just keep on that doctor of yours and keep getting regular fills and then the weight will start to come off! Good Luck.

Hang in there! I'm going for my 4th fill in a couple weeks and over past two months, since my last fill, I've had a very difficult time gained control. I am finding that chicken, shrimp, tuna....just won't go down or stay down....so I do have some restriciton, but yeast rolls no problem to eat! And as NY2LAGIRL says, If we could control our eating, we would NEED to have the Band! It takes time to find the right amount of fill and time to adjust to losing the weight and the hardest part for me, keeping the weight off! Good luck! Keep us posted! We're all in this together and these boards are great for support and answering 'real' questions.

That doctor sounds really mean! I wouldn't like being talked to like that. My doctor told me that they don't really expect you to lose a whole lot until after a few fills. I think his behavior was uncalled for.

I had my 2nd fill 2 weeks ago and I am now restricted. Oh I thought I was restricted before because I did PB many times. But this time is different. I physically can not eat more than half a cup if that. Different foods react differently. I can't gulp down more than 4 oz of Water at a time. My chest just wants to explode and i feel so miserable. I have 2.5 cc in a 4 cc band. I am now starting to lose 1-2 pounds per week. Be careful what you wish for though. I enjoy cooking. Imagine making lasagne, sitting down with the family and having just 3 small bites. Smelling food and not being able to eat it. Going to a restaurant. getting through an appetizer or salad and then boxing up the entree without even trying it. And the worse part of all -- being so hard headed in breaking habits that you force the food and end up for the next 3 hours in pain and misery all the while trying to chuck it all back up. This is not good. When will I learn this new lifestyle?!

It's been a long time since I've posted. Everything is going better than I dreamed! I've lost 65 lbs!! I can now shop (barely) in the non-plus size clothes. I am very excited but also very nervouse. I am not use to sucess with diets. It was actually hard to purchase those first pair of size 16's! And the uncoming holidays are worring me abit. I don't want to stop losing or heaven forbid gain any weight. Enough worrying..... I am really happy about my progress!!:)

I hit 78 lbs!! I know what you mean about scary buying those size 16's. I just recently got my first ever size 16 jeans at the Gap. Part of me is so afraid of getting rid of the large clothes. It's like I feel like an imposter at this size. Never have I been this successful in the past. I have to pinch myself and see if I am dreaming.

I'm just following my doc's and nutritionist's plan. 3 meals a day, under 3/4 cup each. high Protein, low bad carbs. If I snack on reg basis, it's usually 1/2cup of LF cottage cheese. I still enjoy my sweets once in a while...and pizza! I take in average of 70gms protein each day and very briskly walk 2.5 to 3.5 miles 5-6 days a week along with arm strength exercises. I have been bad this past week though, me and family are sick. I've only lost from no appetite to eat this week, surely not from lack of exercise!!

Of course I am eating. I eat 4 oz mini meals about 5 times a day. 80% of that lean, hard protien, not drinking with meals (that's hard) and going to the gym at least 3 days a week. I need to up that now though.

I am eating....but a lot less. High Protien/Low Carbs and I try to not eat sweets, period. Sugars make me retain Water as well as gain weight. No real exercise yet but I see that in my very near future. I was very lucky, I had full restriction by my 3rd fill, infact I had to have some removed (literally I could not swallow my own spit, sorry to be gross)

Thanks for the kind words ladies!! I had forgotten how nice you all were!

:blink:DH bought Twix, Reeses, Snickers and Almond Joys for Halloween....Has he lost his mind? I am going to be loading kids up tomorrow!! Please don't leave me alone with the good chocolate stuff!! No matter how tight you are ... Chocolate goes down smooth!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
