Pure Sorrow

Recommended Posts

As I rejoice in my own mother's recovery process, I learn of a good friend of mine whose mother is on her death bed. She has fought the good fight of Pancreatic Cancer for the last 8 months. Jan, good friend, just informed me that she is at home with her mother and Hospice has been there and they don't expect her mother to last through the night.

Please keep her in your prayers.

Thank you so much for all your kindness and caring.

Penni, my heart goes out to Jan. That is so very hard to watch (death process) - especially when its someone you deeply love.

My goodness, youve been dealing with such bad news lately - seems like this has been going on for several months. ((Hugs)) to you and your friend... and I will remember Jans mom!

God bless.

Ya know even though I am on a trip now this is not the the kind I need. I need a soul revitalizing vacation. Depression is a factor that I fight on a daily basis. I recognize the signs and symptoms and if I allowed myself I would fall into the deep ugly hole easily. I chose to jump back from it and flip it off. But when things happen like they have in the last few months that hole seems to get bigger and harder to ignore.

I think John and I are planning on going away together ALONE somewhere when I get back from this trip. We have discussed that.

I will relay your concerns, prayers and sympathies to Jan.

I agree Hospice is a great thing. I often thought if I return to nursing that is one of the things I would love to do. I would much rather help with a transition to the next step than to cause that step. I felt I was causing alot of death when I was a cancer nurse. Simply because I was giving the chemo to the patient. SIGH!!

Penni,

So sorry to hear that. You have been flooded with death lately, you are going to have to take a break from all that. We dont want you getting depressed.

I'm so sorry Penni. Your friend and her mom are in my thoughts and prayers. My mom died from pancreatic cancer 16 months ago. She also was cared for by hospice. She only lasted 6 months. It is a terrible, painful way to die.

There is an organization here that is dedicated to finding a cure for pancreatic cancer. www.lustgartenfoundation.org

I participate in their walk every July to raise money.

Again, please accept my deepest sympathies.

I just received word that Jan's mother passed away last night at 8p. Please keep the family in your prayers.

THey are coping but it is hard. I think Jan is coming to visit after all the plans are made and her dad is taken care of.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
