eating better increased exercise still no weight loss

Recommended Posts

it will be three months next week since ive lost anything. i lose 5 then gain 4 . its been like this for three months. i had my third fill on april 15 and i do feel pain when i eat to fast or to much so i know its working but im not losing. i took two weeks off from exercise and started up again. now im walking out side 2 miles per day 5 days a week. when i eat i use my sons plates and bowls to measure how much i eat. i went for a calorie intake last week and it showed that i have a fast metabolism and i can eat 1567-1987 calories a day and still lose. how can i lose 5 then gain back 4 when im not going over my calories? i also havent had any fast food, pizza, or chinese for one month now. the only thing that ive had that is kind of bad is fat free frozen yogurt. help i need some advise. should i stay away from the scales for awhile? my emotions are all over the place because one minute im losing then the next i gain some back.

thanks andrea

I'm curious what they are doing to measure your metabolism, or how accurate that is. Are they just going by muscle mass? And who is it that calculated it for you? (gym? primary doc? wls doc?)

I'm losing well on 1200/day, which I started when I was at 228 lbs. You might try something like a 1200-1400 calorie range since you aren't losing at the higher range.

You mentioned pain when you eat too much, but what is "too much" for you? more than 1 cup (volume-wise) of food? More than 1.5 cups? It's possible that a slight adjustment to your fill will help too.

Hope we can help you solve the problem -- I can hear the frustration in your post. It's tough to go through all of this and then be stuck not losing.

I'm also watching what I eat and exercising every day for at least 45 minutes on the treadmill. So far, my weight loss has stalled and for the last three weeks I haven't lost any weight. In frustration I put my scale away and plan on weighing in at my next fill appt. Also, I had my psych follow-up (8 wks. after surgery) today. He suggested I drink more Water, at least 72 oz. and to break-up my exercise into two segments daily. He also mentioned that I should get in enough Protein (about 100 grms.) He explained that as the body gets rid of the water and breaks down the protein you boost your metabolism. Good thing my fill has kicked in and I'm not as hungry otherwise I would have gone back to my old eating habits by now. My perspective on weight loss has changed now that I have the lap-band, I know eventually I will lose weight, so that's comforting.

typically when bodies plateau, you can jump start your weightloss by changing your routine. Whether it be a different kind of exercise, a different kind of food, etc. There was this woman on TV who started eating backwards. She was eating her dinner for Breakfast (fish, chicken, etc) and her breakfast for dinner (wheaties, etc). She lost a ton of weight. Not telling you to do that but maybe try changing your routine. It is normal to stall during weightloss so be sure to take your measurments as you may very well be losing inches.

1. The same exercise everyday does no good. You have to increase either the intensity of the exercise or the duration. So either walk faster or longer.

2. Even though the scale may not be reflecting a change in weight, you may be losing body fat, by converting it to muscle. Muscle is more dense than fat, so you may be changing. Try getting a simple body fat percentage machine. You can find them online or at in the exercise department of most stores.

3. Learn to stop BEFORE you feel full. If you are getting pain when you eat too much, that is exactly the problem.

A. Slow down, take at least 20-30 minutes to eat a meal

B. measure your food(don't eyeball it)

C. Get smaller silverware to eat with. It will help you slow down.

D. CHEW, CHEW,CHEW, CHEW! it also helps to slow you down and to allow your body to send the signals that tell you enough.

I speak from practical experience, but I just got banded today.

Good Luck and don't get discouraged.

i had my metabolism measured by breathing into a tube and it measured my calories allowed to lose also. i did this through the surgical weight loss program. i noticed pain mostly because i still eat to fast. if i eat something and dont chew it well i instantly feel it go through and its like a sharp pain. i need to slow down but ive always been a fast eater. sometimes gorging my food in seconds. as far as exercise i was doing the treadmill changing the speed and incline during my workout and now for the past three weeks ive been walking outside which has a lot of hills. maybe if i do the treadmill sometimes and then do outside sometimes it would be better. i havent been doing 1200 calories a day now for at least two months ive been doing more like 1600. 1200 worked for me a few months ago. i only exercised three times a week 30 min. and the weight came off. i just dont know how to cut back to 1200 now. i should listen to my body also. my stomach aches all of the time. i must be overdoing it. mostly the eating to fast is a problem. how do i start over and do things right?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
