Losing pound after Surgery

Recommended Posts

Does everyone lose about a total of 20lbs after the 1st 2 weeks after surgery? Im just trying to see if my co-workers will notice a difference in my weight when I return to work.

I lost 11 lbs the first week and nothing the second week. I am now 5 weeks post surgery and I am at 19 lbs. lost. I think everyone is different and you shouldn't set yourself up for disappointment.

Congratulations, Lala!

I am told that weight loss is very individual for this surgery. My doctor told me that some people do not begin to lose until after the first fill, others begin to lose immediately. I am about 2 weeks post op and have lost 23 lbs. I am noticing a difference in the way some of my clothes fit, however, because of my initial weight, I do not expect others to notice until I have lost more than 50 lbs or so. The very best to you!

Hello -

I just had me 2 week post-op check up today and I am down 25 pounds. It sounds like a lot, but I started off in the 310 pound range. Some people say my face looks thinner - I blamed it on haveing strep throat (which I did get 4 days after surgery).

Good Luck...

I lost 14 lbs in the first 2 weeks and then only 2 pounds for the next 7 weeks. I went back to work after 3 weeks and people said they noticed, but I didn't see my clothes getting any looser. Once I started eating real food I didn't feel any restriction. I had my first fill at 7 weeks (it was the earliest they could get me in.) Still no restriction. Today is just over 9 weeks and I've had my second fill. Hopefully, I'll feel some restriction so I can really lose some weight.

I was banded May 7th at Wise Regional Hospital. It has been a full week and I've lost 19 pounds. That might be too fast, but for me it just melted off! I know everyone will be different. Don't worry about how fast the pounds come off, they will in time.

WOW! The people on her lose big time. I am very pleased with my 10 pounds in 9 days! But I went for four days and didn't lose anything...I do think that I lose more when I get more sleep..sounds weird I know...

Anyway...keep up the good work.

No... everyone is different. Please try not to have expectations, then you won't be disappointed. I lost only 2 pounds first week - was so swollen and bruised. My tummy was bigger post surgery than pre-surgery - took about 3 weeks for it to settle down.

Please Dont Depend On Others To Tell You If You Are Looking Like You Have Lost Weight Or Not. Alot Of People Will Be Mad Or Jealous Because You Are Losing Weight. I Hate To Say It But Its True. You Will Notice Within Time. Good Luck And Congrats On Your New Beginning

I lost 18 pounds in the first month, but as everyone has said...it is very different from person to person. That is one BIG piece of advice I would give you Don't compare yourself to anyone else or any other group of people. You will be different. There will be some similarities but what works for one may not work for you. You may lose quickly while someone else loses slowly. Take the time to enjoy getting to know who you are. I have learned more about myself in the last 9 months that I did the first 28 years of my life!

I can't answer the weight loss question yet, because I will just be banded next week, but I wondered how soon anyone has gotten back to physical activities, such as exercise, bowling...sex???

Bonbon:confused2:

Wow, congrats to those of you who have lost weight!! I am 13 days out and gained 4 pounds. :tt2: I am only getting in about 850 calories but still gaining. I think my big problem is being constipated (can't believe I am talking about that).

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
