the beginning of a long journey

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I'm new to the forum in general, but definitely belong in here as my BMI is in the 70's (height 5'10"). I've lost about 30 pounds on my own in the past couple of months, but will be seeing my doctor this week to start the long process of referrals for surgery. I've enjoyed reading all your stories and hope someday to have a success story to add to them. I have only told my husband and parents, and don't plan to tell anyone else. My mom shocked me when I told her -- said she, too, had thought about having it done, and wants to go through the process with me and see about getting it for her. One day at a time, I guess.

I've been amazed at the number of friends and family who have told me they are looking to see how I do with it to decide whether to have it themselves. I was banded on 5/5 and hope I can live up to their dreams!

Welcome to the site! I'm still new to being banded. but just wanted to shout encouraging words to you! It is a long journey, and I feel discouraged all the time. I remind myself that without this band, I wouldn't have made it this far, no way no how! :smile2: Be proud of what you've lost so far!! You've done awesome.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Wow, so recently! Congratulations. How are you doing so far, pain-wise and all. You ok? Yeah, it totally blew my mind about my mom. I won't be telling anyone else about the surgery, though. I'm just a very private person. Good luck to you! Hope to keep hearing updates on you and that you're doing great! :tongue2:

Wow, thank you so much! So few people posted I really wasn't feeling that welcomed, but I do really appreciate you taking the time, as with the others. Thank you.

I'm doing fine. I came back to work yesterday. The pain was minimal--I haven't taken any painkillers since I left the hospital.

I had my post-surgery visit this morning. I was down 12 lbs, for a total of 30 lbs. down from my highest weight. And I was approved for mushies--lets hear it for scrambled eggs!

I hope some more people will start posting on this board. We superbandsters need to stick together!

Well good for you and your mom both!! I had something similar happen when I started telling my family I wanted to have a band my Sister in law is now considering it. And her daughter who had a bypass a few years ago says she had been considering more weight loss surgery cause she can't get any more off. And want's to try a band. Well she has to wait now since she's due in july (her 3rd kid)

Good luck on the process and I hope you don't have the pitfalls I had that have kept me from getting mine yet.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
