Tuscaloosa Bandsters....

Recommended Posts

Thanks for responding. Let me clarify my question a bit. I had my lap band placed on March 25th of this year out of state. So, having already being banned would it still be okay to attend a support group meeting sponsered by another Dr? Also, I have been going to Planet Fitness which use to be Gold's Gym here in Tuscaloosa. It is open pretty much 24 hours during the week. I usually go on my way home from work. I would also love to have someone to work out with. I mostly walk on the treadmill or use the stationary bikes. Anyway, thanks for you help.

Hi Kimmie,

Yes, it's still ok to attend the meetings. We meet every third Thursday of the month except for the major holidays. We meet at DCH in the Williard Auditorium in the main hospital. If you take the stairs right in front of the cafeteria, once you get to the top, you will turn left and you will be facing a nurses station, which is formally called 1Center. At that nurses station, make an immediate left and then a quick right. Walk about 25 to 50 feet and make another left and it's through the double doors. They usually have a poster board outside the door indicating the Bariatric meeting...It's held at 6pm. And the treadmill and bike would be all I need to do too...

Hello,

I am new to the forum. I am from Tuscaloosa and considering the lap band. I was diagnosed with PCOS by my OB/GYN. Are there any bandsters that has used Dr. Bilton as their surgeon? If so, what where is requirements for the surgery? What was his bedside manners like? What was your overall experience pre and post-op?

Thanks in advance for sharing your story and giving much needed advice!!

Hi,

I saw you are from Tuscaloosa. Just wanted to introduce myself. I go to UA and am being banded in 2 weeks! Do you know of any support groups around here?

Thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
