stuck...and then what?

Recommended Posts

I decided i would try a bite of angel food cake...that went ok...so did the 2nd bite...well the 3rd not so good! i've not been stuck but i think this is what stuck was. it hurt really bad and i felt like i may die! i didn't "pb" i just kept swallowing to keep it down. it hurt in my chest and it hurt in my back.

so my question is this...if you're stuck and then you don't pb does it end up getting "pushed" from your pouch thru your band into your stomach? does anyone know? did that even make sense!?

Eventually it moves through. I would go back to liquids for 24 hours if you are still experiencing any pain. Lots of times after a bad stuck episode your stoma is swollen and you continue to have difficulty with food passing through, so liquids avoid that problem and allow the swelling to go down without causing further irritation. I have done this a few times, and each time I swear I will NEVER eat anything that will cause such pain again.

Try drinking apple juice, it always helps me get unstuck. I usually wait but when I know waiting isn't going to help then I take a few sips. Works like a charm.

I wouldn't try drinking anything... I did a few times on a natural reaction to feeling like I needed to wash down food and it just swelled up more. So not fun!!! I just went back to the doc today becuase I worried about a slipped band and found out I am not doing things correctly. Learn from my mistake and if you get stuck on something take it easy for a while... go on liquids for a day. I was scared straight today and will def not risk a slipped band again.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
