It's normal to have some gas pain after the surgery, but it doesn't last long.

After that, if you are gassy it's likely because of eating/drinking habits (swallowing a lot of air) or because of what you're eating/drinking. I've found that not just dairy but anything sugary sets me off with bad gas.

For the latter, I highly recommend Probiotics. That's the only think that's worked for me. Walking helps too, but doesn't solve the problem for when I'm in my office trying to work! Gas-X doesn't help me. I've had the best results with PB8, but it's a standard-sized gel capsule, so too big for people who are tight. I'm still testing out the Pearls but they don't seem to be working as well as PB8 does.

When people mention gas - it's usually pain in the shoulder/arm/neck area and has nothing to do with passing gas. It happens due to being cut open and then being filled with air, that then becomes trapped. Scary, no - painful, yes and for me anyways, time was the only thing that helped me. I'm 19 days post op and I still have a little shoulder/neck pain but NOTHING like what it once was. They say walking, peppermint tea and gas-x strips helps but again, not for me.

Good luck - you'll be fine.

I had my surgery on 5/6/08. It was actually 2 days earlier then scheduled. I had gas when I woke in recovery and up until yesterday. when I woke up from surgery I felt the pain really bad in my right shoulder. However, I elevated my bed as far up as I could go and the pain started to ease a little. The gas is very painful and makes your stomach feel tight. So laying down was difficult as well as walking or sitting. Keep in mind this only went on for a day and an half. By the end of the second day I felt so much better. Now I am 3 days post op and there is no gas pain. I contribute that to a lot of walking. Hope this was helpful.

For me...... I had only very minor problems with gas pain. Walking took care of it. It is not in the digestive tract. Most people have some gas left over from the band surgery. They inflate your abdomen so they can see and do the procedure. They let most the gas out of you when they are done but..... some of the gas is trapped in you, it takes time to work it's way out.

I don't think it can be any worse than eating too much sugar free chocolate...Oh my goodness must i say I had some sugar free turtles on last week and like a fat azz i ate like 5 or 6 they were really good and i paid for it later.. hell i felt like i was going to give birth or something...

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
