Mad at myself

Recommended Posts

I am so upset with myself. I was doing so well and things are going downhill.

I was banded on March 13 and had lost almost 30 lbs. A week and a half ago a tree fell on my house and we are now living in a hotel having to eat out every meal.

I do pretty well if I am at work where I have my "good" foods but at dinner time I lose it. Tonight I had Chinese food. By the time I got to eat dinner (8:15) I was so hungry that I ended up getting stuck and had to throw up a little.

I am so tired of eating out and they have not even started work on my house yet! I'm going to be back up to what I was before surgery the way things are going!

I called the doctor and I cannot get a fill until July 10th! because he won't do a second fill before 90 days out and due to his vacation and mine I can't get it until a month after the 90 days.

I am so aggravated, upset and depressed about everything right now.

I'm hoping someone can give me some words of encouragement or a smack that will get me back on the right track.:sad_smile::biggrin:

No smack here.. I think with all you have gone through you are doing just fine ... Maybe go buy some fruit or something to carry with you or the protien shakes when you are hungry ..

You take this one day at a time .. It will all work out you wait and see ... Keep trying and I hate it about your home ...

Yesterday is done so tomorrow do better even if it is baby steps ...

Carla, that sounds like a very stressful and difficult situation. It sounds like you never get a chance to really relax. Unless you are in a suite it must be very hard to get comfortable at the end of the day. No wonder you are going out to eat all the time. I think it is understandable to have some slip-ups at this time.

You are surviving each day. I think you should be proud of yourself for doing that. I think once the shock dulls a little you will find a routine that works for you. I guess until then be proud of yourself for dealing with the situation in front of you. I am glad you are safe and I hope your house is ready for you soon.

Wow, what bad luck. Do you have a small frig in the motel. or a cooler you can keep ice in (compliments of motel) In a pinch I have used the Walmart slim fast (cheaper), i'm especially fond of vanilla. Yogurt is good, mozzarella sticks save me sometimes. Even a bit of Peanut Butter spread on a wheat thin (they mush up nicely) are pretty good. Eating out much be getting really old...just try to make sane choices. Good luck.

I called my surgeon's office today and asked about getting and earlier fill. They said due to insurance they can't do the 2nd fill before 90 days after surgery. When I told them I was self pay, it was a totally different story. So now I can get my fill June 12 which is a whole month sooner.

Tomorrow I'm going to our local wellness center to see if I can get a short term membership until we can get back in our house.

I have not done too great on eating today but I am going to take this weekend to get my head back in the game. We are going out to dinner tonight and I've already gone on line and scoped out calories/fat/protein to find out what is my best choice.

I have to have a plan before I ruin all my progress. I didn't pay all this money to fail.

Just try to make smart food choices. Chinese food is not horrendous if you eat veggie and Protein based sauteed Entrees and wonton Soup.

I was on a business trip and got stuck in some fast food hell. Just try to be picky.

Good luck with everything going on. If you can survive this kind of stress with the band, you can go through anything with the band.

I'm sorry you are having to deal with all of this! At least you are aware that you are not doing your best and it didn't take getting on the scale and discovering you had gained 20 pounds for that to happen. Since you are in a situation where you have to eat out, try to make smart choices. Avoid fried foods and sauces, remember the Protein first rule, eat slowly and stop eating when you feel full. Good luck to you and I hope your life gets back to "normal" soon!

I can relate, the first thing is not to beat yourself up. Try not to eat so late first of all, second of all when u go out ot eat..like the other one's said you can just make better choices... have your dressing on the side... get things baked, grilled or steamed and not fried..see the thing is being able to make it in the real world when you dont have everything u would normally have. Just like Bob and Jillian from the biggest looser they took the cast out to dinner and had them to make healthy food choices and you can too... U r a winner.... 30lbs is a huge deal....be proud of yourself.. and just learn from your slips...

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to. And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed. I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
