does medicaid pay for lap band (not medicare but medicaid)

Recommended Posts

i am from missouri and the only place here that i know of that takes only medicaid is university hosp. in columbia missouri. my daughter will be having hers done there. i am having mine done in st johns in springfield missouri because they accept medicare and medicaid together. but will not do medicaid by itself.alsp look on the posts. fatman903 says texas medicaid does pay. it has to be a center of excellence in bariatric surgery.

Ok I have been researching this all over what I found is that Medicaid will pay for the surgery if you have Amerigroup they will make you do a 6mnth to a yr supervised diet first and Peach state doesn't and Peachstate is an easier approval, I know that Dr.Duncan and Dr.Hobson office in Atlanta do take medicaid I am going to there seminar on the 16th of this mnth. now the only thing I am trying to confirm is that Peachstate will cover Lapband..........

Can someone please tell me exactly how long it took to get approved, what you had to do, what tests you had to have, and the time line?? Or is there any blogs?

For where I am they require a one year doctor supervised diet with no weight change, and then a six month diet losing 10% of your weight and keeping it off. Right now I am doing the waiting game. My insurance specialist at the bariatrich center submitted my papers to just 'see what happens' and of course I was denied saying that I didn't have the six month diet. I started on March 25th so I can submit my papers on August 25th. THEN I have to wait another six weeks to get scheduled for surgery because that is how the doctor spaces out her medicaid surgeries, so I'm looking at the end of October.

I am so afraid that I will work hard to get these 30 pounds off and then have them say... sorry we still won't pay for it. I know that either way losing weight is a good thing for me, I'm just sitting on pins and needles because its something I want SO BADLY.

I love to hear stories so please post yours to give me something to do in the meantime!

THanks!

Jen

Ok. My question is....

If you are low income how do you get medicaid? Is it through welfare? Do I have to have kids? Have to have disability?

I am in search of how I can get insurance to cover this surgery. I have a high BMI, asthma, and I am pre-hypertension which will soon turn into HBP.

I am from Michigan medicade just approved my surger for the lapband. There were a lot of hoops I had to jump through to get it approved. The first hoop was making sure that I went to see a dietion for a year. Then I had to have a medical condition that was a result of my being over weight. I was diagonsed with sleep apnea about 6 months ago. After that I had to have an MMPI2 test to make sure that I was mentally ready for this surgery. Once that was all done the doctor sent it off to my medicade insurance company (I have Great Lakes Medicade) and with in 2 weeks I recived my approval. I will be having surgery at Hurly hopital in Flint Michigan on the 29 of July.

Hope this helps

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
