saw surgeon AAAAHHHHH!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I saw my surgeon today. He said he would have to talk to my psychiatrist before he would decide to do the surgery. He wouldn't even discuss it. Just sent me home and said he would contact me. I wasted all that gas and a 4 hour round trip for nothing. I am so upset it's not even funny. I could spit nails. I'm seriously considering switching doctors. They could have told me before I came up that this would happen. I wish they would have. I don't have the money to waste gas like that. I asked if they knew if he would have an answer this week because I was not going to waste the gas to come up for the seminar if the answer was no. They said if I don't hear from them by Friday to give them a call. A complete waste of time. Just because a psych doctor once told me I might have Borderline Personality Disorder. I don't even know if it was ever even put on my records. He says he doesn't have any luck with BPDs and the lap band. If I do have it, it is mild. My sister is BPD and I am nothing like her. I tried to tell him all of this but he wouldn't even give me a chance. All he would say is that he needed to talk to my psych doctor. I mean I would understand if I had this disorder in a severe case but I don't and he wouldn't even listen. I'm furious. I'm trying to see his side but it is difficult. Has anybody else come up against this? How do I handle this? What should I do? Should I switch doctors? I just don't know. There is one other doctor in Boise, Idaho that does this. The only other one does the bypass. Please give me some advice. I am so mad I can't hardly think straight. Sorry about the rant, but it upset me. And to add insult to injury I gained 5 pounds. So now I weigh 285!!!

Your surgeon is just trying to be thorough. He/she has no idea how severe your personality disorder is and typically it is not smart to take the patients word on psychiatric conditions since insight on disease can be limited. I'm sorry you feel disappointed that things aren't moving quickly enough but it seems like your surgeon is trying to optimize the best results for you.

My Doctor is in Boise. Dr. Cahn at St. Lukes Meridian. He is great. I had to do a psych eval. I was very nervous because I have depression. I take an SSRI. My eval was by Dr. Mark Snow in Boise. He does alot of evals for Lap Band candidates. I really liked him too. It is NOT uncommon for people with weight issues to have depression or other mental issues. It can actually help your insurance approve you. I had to go thru alot of hoops for insurance approval...took me 7 months. Don't give up. Just go step by step by step. You'll get there. m

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
