Low Blood Pressure

Recommended Posts

I went for my adjustment last wednesday and while they were checking my vitals they noticed that my blood pressure is dropping. Before operation I never had high blood pressure, I was always at normal; however, every appointment that i have had after the operation my blood pressure has been dropping lower and lower every time i go in. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue. I have an appointment this wednesday morning with my primary physician because the P.A. at True Results are not allowed to order blood work. I started looking up stuff on the internet and I think I am scaring myself now. :)

well, when I first starting going to the appointments I was at 120/80 and post op (at the end of Feb) it dropped to 110/70 or something like that and my last appointment (Last Wednesday) it was at 90/60.

I dont think my belly is swollen and I have gotten dizzy a couple of times but its not an all the time thing. I have been getting some headaches but living in San Antonio, i kind of just blamed them on allergies.

It is definitely something to check into. You don't want it to drop any below that. Mine usually runs about 110/60 but I haven't had mine checked since my first post op appt. A trip to your primary is a good idea. It may be something as simple as a medication that is now too strong because of your weight loss. Try not imagine things until you know. When they know what it is, they can treat it.

Hang in there.

Yeah, check it out. Although it can just be transient, one of those things.

Its funny you should mention it though, I've had an episode this morning (its 7.15 am here now). I got up and got straight in the shower, and had to sit down as I was about to faint. Its an hour later and I'm only just now feeling OK to walk around and start getting ready for my day.

I had a fill last week and have been on teaching rounds, which means that I've barely eaten all week - probably 1000 calories a day or so. My body just does NOT cope with that, I lose all my weight on 1500 to 1800 calories and I couldnt do the preop diet (didnt have to anyway but tried it) because I kept passing out.

So... how have you been eating? Are you eating and drinking enough? Could that be the reason?

Hi Syndy,

We have the same surgeon and get fills and follow ups at the same location. I think some of the bp issue may be their equipment. All along I have had bp around 127/70. I do take high bp medicine so I figured eventually I would lose enough weight to stop the meds.

When I went in for my fill last week they had my bp at 110/60 - the nurse was excited that it was so low. I'm still on the meds so I wasn't surprised but thought it was a little strange to be that low with only 15 pds lost.

When I got back to work I had the nurse there take my bp and it was 125/70. Not sure what happened.

Let your primary doc have a look and hopefully it isn't anything serious. Be sure to give us a follow up.

Hey Syndy! I do have high blood pressure and on my 2 week post op check my blood pressure was 112/76. I had the nurse recheck it since I'm usually around 140/90. She did and it was the same. I went to my family doc and told her and she cut my meds in half. My heart doc did the same thing and this was within a month of my surgery. My heart doc told me not to let it get below 100 on the top side so really watch it!! My cholesterol meds are being weaned off of me as well and my liver panels look great. I had lots of co-morbidities before my surgery so I have several doctors watching out for me! Just be sure you monitor your BP. This band is working miracles for me with my health issues but your BP was actually NORMAL??!! Your doc can let you know what to do! Good luck and let us know what he/she says! :woot:

Hi Fellow bandsters :(

Sorry for the late update but i finally received my results from my primary physician and everything came back NORMAL!!! He checked everything from my Vitamin levels to my kidney and liver levels.

He did explain to me that while we are loosing weight our blood pressure is going to drop and since i had no other side effects (head aches, dizziness, light headed) then I am ok.

For my hair loss (i started loosing more and more hair within the last couple of weeks) he told me to take Biotin so i went and bought some at wal-mart and started taking that this weekend. :scared2:

Thank you for your support!

Great news!! Glad to hear your BP is ok!! It can be worrisome when it drops but I did have the dizzyness and headaches so I'm ok now with half meds! I also started taking Biotin from Walmart as well for my hair. I've been on it for about 2 weeks and also prenatal Vitamins..just for my own peace of mind and my hair is still coming out (not as heavy as before) but it is a lot shinier..or is that my scalp??:( Just kidding..it is shinier but I can't see much change in my thickness yet. My doc said to increase my Protein and to be patient. He said it took 3 months to start falling out and it might take that long to grow back!! So I will just keep an eye on it and you let us know how yours if fairing!! :biggrin2:

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
