I am still a few months from surgery...so I can't say from personal experience.... but I have read many other posts with a similar discomfort..

I do know that if your diaphragm is irritated...like from air in your belly after surgery or a full pouch bumping up to the diaphragm... you can get something called referred pain...basically your brain mixes up the pain/ discomfort signal and refers it to your shoulder.... gives you a false message that something is wrong with your shoulder when it is really an irritated diaphragm...

Hope that helps...

I am not banded yet.. but I met with my surgeon today... and her nurse actually spoke about this. She said that some people get a pain in their shoulder when they are full.....She didnt give much of an explanation just that I should learn the signals my body gives when I am full.... So this may be one for you... So if you feel that... then it is time to stop eating.... and you should learn how to stop BEFORE that happens so that you are satisfied and not full....

I wish it was that easy. As you will SOON learn some days two chips fill you up (like today) and other days half of an order you can get down (like two days ago). im still learning my bodies signals, but they can be so confusing and come too late. lol maybe ill get it soon!!

I hope you didnt think I was telling you to stop before you feel that.. That is what she was telling me.....I am positive I too will be on a learning curve for this one LOL

Sounds like just when you think you have it figured out the rules change....I am sure I will be on here with the same questions SOON!

Good luck!

Totally normal and common. The main reason is the gas and Fluid - it refers up to the shoulder. Walking feels awful but it does help a lot in the long run (no pun intended). I have a second theory though. I think that the position we're in on the table leads to pain in the shoulder is you have any joint problems at all. I do - I have a bad shoulder and forgot to say anything. I don't know how much it would have helped, but being strapped down in one position for an hour did me damage and add in the gas pain---wow---I"ve been really hurting. I'm on day 6 after banding and it's calming down, but I know it will be while before it's gone.

Good luck. Gwenn

I'm doing good...thanks for asking hit a plateou, but I started working out, so I'm getting back on track. So far I've lost 24 pounds (17 of which were during the liquid stage) and 8 pre - for the grand total of 32 pounds! I'm glad you are encouraged about 9 - when you see the progress of others it's easy to get discouraged, but the way I look at it - every single pound is a victory!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
