2 week post op and worried I am not doing it right!!!

Recommended Posts

Help! I am two weeks post op today. I have been eating liquids the last two weeks and lots of Soup. I had some mashed potatoes today...I guess I am going crazy because I am not due for a fill until May 30th and I know I am hungry and scared I am going to do something wrong before my fill! Even though I talked to people and understood I would not be restricted right after...I guess I thought I would feel different after surgery..Am I going crazy? Will it feel different when I have my first fill. I am starting mushed or soft food but I am scared to eat and stretch everything...should I just stay on soup and liquid. Please tell me your post op expirence..is it normal that I feel so good? is it normal that I am going crazy! What are the best mushy foods...pudding? eggs? any suggestions would be great:confused2:

The easiest way to make sure you don't over eat your mushies is to measure them. My doc allows 4oz per meal nothing else.

Didn't your doc give you a list of mushies? I remember from mine, my favorite mushie was rotisserie chicken salad. I still make that alot, it's really moist and loaded with Protein. Other high Protein options are cottage cheese, Beans, weight control oatmeal, and another favorite of mine was pot pie. Yum.

Good luck to you.

i'd check with your doc because mine doesn't allow oatmeal or chicken salad yet. i have to be on mushies for 2 weeks before i can have it.

i've been eating cottage cheese doubles, yogurt, campbell's select Soups, mashed potatoes/sweet potatoes and creamed spinach from boston market, pastina (not filling though so i only had it once), runny scrambled eggs, farina, Water based Protein shakes.

Hey, I am glad to see someone else was not really told what to expect between the time of surgery and 1st fill. I had my surgery March 17 and 1st fill April 22nd. Between that time I had lost an original 7 lbs the first week or so from just liquid diet. I was really getting worried, upset and downright depressed because I could still eat a great amount. I only maintained that 7 lb weight loss until getting filled. Since then (last Tuesday, so a little over a week) I am down 11 more pounds. I am starting my journey now. But the day of my 1st fill I told my team how upset I was and they said that there are some people who actually gain weight between surgery and 1st fill. So that should really be your start point. Don't get discouraged. When you get filled you don't feel as hungry. And the discomfort that comes with eating makes you even less likely to overeat. My biggest problem now is to get enough Protein, because I CANNOT eat enough to meet my quota. Keep me posted on your progress. It does get better!!!

..is it normal that I feel so good? is it normal that I am going crazy!

Hi there.... well I don't know if its normal you are going crazy  I guess everyone reacts to the post op diet differently. I was (am) very lucky - I've not really had an issue craving food, or feeling frustrated. I recovered quite quickly, and at each stage my dietician allowed me to move on a few days early (after consultation). I am only 3.5 weeks post op and already on the final week (soft food) before moving onto solids.

So... is it normal you feel so good - I don't know what is "normal" here, but you are clearly recovering well, so this is a good thing.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
