Protien Diet Anyone??

Recommended Posts

Any of you Jazzy Junes have to do the two week protien diet?

I do and will need support. My beautiful and wonderful daughter gets married May 24th :thumbs_up:and I start my protien diet after the cake is cut....well I will wait a day or two. Probably start it on Memorial day.

My packet came with options for pre-op diets. I think I'm going to go with the 1 week of Protein shakes. SO, that means I would start the Tuesday after Memorial Weekend. I've started searching some recommended brands, but nothing has really jumped out as sounding great tasting.

Have you decided what day you'll start your pre-op diet? We can support each other.

I too will be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks before my surgery. My band date is June 10th. I will have several obstacles during this time (End of school year activities and my family is going to Disneyland for a couple days). My Dr. sells several different kinds of high Protein powders and they aren't too bad. Plus there are sugarfree things I am allowed to have. So it should work out.

Have fun at your daughter's wedding! Celebrate!!

Jules

I am to start a Low Carb diet on May 23, that is all they told me. I do think I have to do Clear Liquids 3 days before, but I will see the surgeon on the 23rd and have the pre-admit test and stuff on June 30. I suppose they will give me more instructions then. I am so ready now, but I keep having my "last supper"...

I'll be on a clear liquids diet the week before the surgery to shrink my liver. For 5 days after the surgery I'll also be on a clear liquids diet until I heal.

My doctor sells Protein shake mixes too, so when I go for my consultation I'll be buying some of that.

I haven't had my "Last Supper" yet because I set another weightloss goal for May to keep from doing that. However, I keep telling my husband "This is probably the last time I can eat this."

My program doesn't require a pre-op diet, but I'm going to do one on my own (and my dietician approved it). I'm going to do 2 Protein Shakes and a small dinner every day for the 2 weeks before. My surgery date is June 12th so I'm starting the diet on May 29th.

My doc only requires clear liquids the day before surgery, but I think I'm going to do liquids for a week just to make sure my liver is nice and tiny. I don't want to risk an open incision. He did tell me to lose 10 lbs though before my surgery.

My appointment with the surgeon is on May 22nd and I will be starting my pre-op diet on the 23rd.

So far I THINK this is what it will entail

Full Fluids

70 grams of Protein

64 ounces of Fluid daily

800-1000 calories daily

low fat

0 sugar

this times 11 days prior to surgery...

May 23-June 2 Surgery June 3

I am still wrapping my brain around how to do this one and going to ask about carbs as well

I am starting on Slimfast high Protein and Protein Bars and south beach meal for supper starting today and following that through until my appointment so we will see if that helps the transition go smoother... yikes

I have heard from others at support group that if u can make it through the pre-surgery diet the surgery is cake (pun?!?!)

I am scheduled to be banded on June 3rd!!

I am part of a club :)

yay

I am going to start Memorial Day. I bought a pack of myoplex light today. I have had them before. They are good tasting. Expensive! The weight loss institute of arizona sells a powder that I will buy. The myoplex is good for on the go stuff. I would love to help support eachother. I will be gone the whole weekend and home on monday. Lets stay in touch.

Where do you buy the Optifast? I have never heard of the stuff Kristy is talking about  Is it a Protein mix? I would like to find something that would make a fruit smoothie type thing. Most Proteins taste kinda salty. I am having issues with my blood pressure right now, (not normal for me) :crying:so I am apprehensive about the protein diet. I also have milk and egg allergies... I have to start somewhere. I go see my PPC on Friday to see why my blood pressure shot up and why I am retaining so much Fluid. I will see what she recommends. I may also call the Nutritionist.

I worry that I will struggle with my eating habits. I eat mindlessly at times and i am sure I am an emotional eater and I think I also have some kind of issue with needing something in my mouth. :tongue2: I smoked many years ago  and I think I still substitue food for the cigs . Crazy! I am open to any suggestions you have. I have thought about getting a straw and chewing on it.. I have stopped chewing gum.

Gotta go for now, class is in session and I am needed. Great to have the support here!

I am trying to find something like you, CathyChatts, something that makes more of a fruity smoothy rather than a milky shake. So far, nothing has caught me. If I find one, I'll share.

I am laughing about the multiplying "last suppers" -- I just told my husband last night the two places we are going before my pre-opt liquid diet begins on May 30. One is a family favorite for margaritas and tex mex food and the other is brunch buffet. (I have to admit, I AM mighty happy to think that after May 30, I will never get my money's worth from a buffet again!)

Good luck to everyone!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
