Recommended Posts

is this gas pain? I feel like my entire body got hit by a truck.

I woke up with it so what else could it be. Suggestions, comments - ways to help. Please.

Not sure, as you really didn't give too much of a description. However, normally one tends to feel worse the day after surgery as opposed to the day of. The effects of the anesthia are starting to wear off, etc. Give yourself a couple of days and you should start feeling better.

Take Gas-X and walk, as that seems to help with gas pain.

Could be the gas pain, after effects of the GA, the fact that your tummy has been beaten around by surgeons :-)

Hang in there, it gets better - after a few days you will be feeling a lot more normal. Peppermint tea helps with the gas (well it did for me) and walking (take it easy though). Rest and get your liquids in. Don't be afraid to make use of your pain meds.

Hate to tell you this, but 6 days out I still have a bit of pain in my shoulder from the gas.

It's not nearly as painful as it was the day or two after surgery, but it does hurt! I found that I felt a lot better when I took a few of the gas-x tablets. The gas didn't really find its way out until the third day for me. Warm shower helped, gas-x helped and a warm (NOT HOT) heating pad in the most painful areas.

Good luck.

I'm sorry you're not feeling well. the second day is the worst. You will feel better and better each day. Make sure you take your pain medication regularly. Regarding the left shoulder pain, I had that for about a week. It helped to lay on my left side and lay on the shoulder (counterintuitive I know but it worked). I still get the shoulder pain once in a while but it's not too bad. hang in there !

I am 10 days out and now just starting to feel normal again. Make the meds your friend as they will get you by and I too felt like you and also felt it wouldn't end but it does get better. Gas-X either liquid or strips have helped, too.

Good luck - hang in there.

In a sense you were "hit by a truck" Surgery is a big deal. Hang in there it gets better quickly. The second day was my worst. Try to walk as much as you can. That will help you get your strength back more quickly. Don't push yourself, get plenty of rest and stay hydrated. Take a 5 or 10 minute walk every hour or so. If you were given pain meds, take them, if not try liquid tylenol (the kids stuff tastes better and it's about the same amount of either)

Good luck and welcome to Bandland.:smile2:

The second day was the worst so far. Last night we raised my side of the bed by folding a thick sleeping bag and putting it under my side of the mattress. I slept like a baby....until about 8 this morning. Way better than the 1,4 and 5 o'clock wake ups the night before.

I going to venture to the store and get some gas x for this constant gas today. Dont worry I am not driving my sis is here helping me through recovery.

That is exactly how I felt on Friday, trust me, it gets better from tomorrow on. My surgeon called me the day after and I don't think I said much that was coherant! Take your pain med if you were given in and rest and relax. Don't try to do too much.

Hang in there! It will only get better!

I was also banded yesterday. I feel pretty good today as long as I take my pain meds, walk and take the Gas-X. Yesterday was awful - absolutely awful. But I don't react well to general anesthetic. My doctor said to be sure to take the pain meds regularly whether you think you need them or not and to walk and to sip fluids continuously. Good luck!

feeling pretty crappy. I slept fairly well last night, got up twice to go potty and drink some Water. I have had the hiccups twice and that's misirable! any suggestions?

I feel fine walking, and it really helps with the gas, and I've been so worried about post-op blood clots, so I walk around the house acouple times.

How are you all getting in your pain meds? Doc prescribed Vicodan (big pill) that I have to crush and have been mixing with OJ. really hard to get down.

good luck to you all, I'm hoping this is the the worst of recovery and should feel better soon!

Hi there,

I'm new to this forum. I had the surgery 10 days ago. Yes, the gas is very uncomfortable and can be painful too. When you have surgery on the abdomen area the surgeon has to put air inside you to avoid any organs sticking together, so avoiding damage to nearby organs eg. liver etc. This air cannot work its way out through burping or breaking wind so it takes a longer time for it to come out in other ways - skin. Some people have a lot of pain in the shoulder and some have pain in the leg. It takes time to be able to breath a deep breath without having any pain. I am feeling a lot better today and can now breathe more comfortably.

Hope this has helped. Rgds.

Do the Gas-X Strips really help with this type of gas? I never would have thought they would and it's good to know. The gas pains are what scare me the most. Well that and I hate getting general anesthsia, DH says I have control issues.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
