feeling guilty. is it normal

Recommended Posts

:frown:a small background.. I am post surgery had my third fill a couple weeks ago.

I have really worked hard on sticking to my portion sizes ...my dr says about a cup..or about the size of a lean cuisine dinner. so ive been doing that BUT when I look at that one cup of food it just looks like so much .. and then I feel guilty.. I mean I try to think "ok before this you would eat 3-4 cups in a setting" or I try to think ok you are losing weight. I dont know why I feel so guilty for eating that one cup of food now. I just look down at my legs when Im eating and wonder why I keep eating. should I reduce the portion size to 1/2 a cup.... im so confused I feel like theres a war going on in my head. .. one parts telling me good job..the other one is saying NO that still too much food look how little you've lost. its like this constant battle in my head which is so weird because I never worried about portion sizes ..(probably why I got so big) but now its like almost an obsession. .. im sorry to ramble none of this will probably make any sense. maybe it will tho ..to someone

What Jack said.

And this is another reason why I like food tracking software so much. My doc said aim for 1000-1200 cals per day (and gave me eating guidelines as well). I track my food on TheDailyPlate.com and I can see that Yes, I'm getting in between 1000-1200 cals per day and Yes, I'm eating a diet that is well balanced between carbs, Protein and fat, and Yes, I'm getting in the nutrients I need (or I am falling short in some area and I supplement).

Plus I track my weight loss in Excel on a weekly basis so I can see how the numbers are going down.

Cold hard facts can help silence those accusing voices. We really don't do ourselves any favors by eating too little.

Hang in there!

I agree, and also want to say taht being banded is about being good to yourself, not about punishing yourself for being fat or disgusting or whatever your own internal dialogue tells you you are. It is reasonable to eat!

But losing weight banded is super weird, you always feel every week "I wont have lost this week, I ate too much" becuase you're not hungry and deprived.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
