Who trained who?

Recommended Posts

After reading an old post where it was stated that Ortiz trained Lopez I contacted Craig Arthur at Inamed and asked if they could confirm this. I received an email back from Inamed that states Ortiz was not Lopez' trainer. Lopez was trained by a European MD and certified in 1996. This contradicts what I was told about Lopez having done these types of surgeries for the past 10 years. I was banded in 2004. Yeah he was off a couple of years but it was still a lie.

Just be more aware of who actually trained who when you decide what doctor to use. You can always double check with Inamed to verify what you are told.

Ortiz did not train Lopez and Lopez did not train Ortiz. Actually Ortiz, Lopez and Kuri were all trained at the same time by Dr. Mitiku Belachew (the inventor of the Lap-Band) in Belgium.

I think knowing that a doctor lied doesn't say much about his creditability!

Penni60,

Thanks for the information.

Get A Life...!!!!!

I think that it is very important when traveling to MX for surgery to not only find a doctor who is qualified but also HONEST. I think honesty shows integrety; and when u r leaving the US and all ur American rights with it, I find it quite relavent.....call me crazy I guess.

Karla hun.... I know you are just expressing your opinions and I know that Penni doesn't really take offense easily and could really give a sh*t about your opinion and it is probably just rolling right off of her as we speak... but may I offer a suggestion? If you start attacking Penni (a long time and respected bandster and long time member of LBT) you are probably better off rolling in rare meat juice and stepping into the lions pit at the zoo. Just my opinion.

Hey guys, for what it's worth, it says on Dr. Ortiz's web-site that he was trained by Dr. Belechew, as Kat said.

OK you know you don't even warrant a response but here it is. You have YET to introduce yourself and let us all caring people help you through your journey, which makes me suspect just exactly who you are.

Jenna you are correct I don't take offense easily. I let this go for a few days just so I could think about it.

This forum is for people to support each other in this sometimes difficult journey. Yes, we all have differing opinions about certain doctors, clinics, mexico vs states, etc. We all respect each others opinions here. We try not to attack anyone. We are all adults and should act accordingly. When Karla stated I was negative and I should GET A LIFE. I am doing just that Karla, "Getting a life", ONE I haven't had for over 30 years due to my weight. So thank you for reminding me to get one.

There how was that Jenna!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
