Just a bit curious; I notice that some people have got higher goal weights, than for example, myself, which is doctor stated 145, me stated 135 - 125. Are you taller? I'm 5'3". Obviously body build has much to do with it, but wonder if I am being too optimistic and wishful.

I'm 5'6, so i can carry a little more weight than you...but i also have mini goals that i set for myself so that the big finish doesnt seem like its so far away.. my first goal is to be under 300, then my next will be 250 (my pre-marriage weight lol) so on and so forth...i find it easier to stay positive when my goal isnt so far away.

You're definitely not too optimistic! You can get to whatever weight you want. Those people you see are not giants.... some would say they're selling themselves short.

Good luck!

(I'm 5'6" and my goal weight made me right in the middle of the healthy BMI range, and exactly half my original weight)

A goal is a goal baby! You can set whatever you want, it's definitely not too optimistic if it's in your healthy weight range! I am setting my on the high end of the inch up from me...

So...I'm five five and a half, so the highest someone 5'6" can weigh is 155 so that's my goal. I plan to lower it if my body wants me to! Waiting anxiously to find out what my body wants to do and where it wants to go with my level of commitment.

Thanks for the support! My high weight for my height and body type(I really DO have a large frame:), not just an excuse, so my Doctor says 145. But, I would REALLY like to get it down about 10 pounds more. I want to LIVE the rest of my life, and spend it doing fun things and catching all those rich men, lol.

I chose 190 as my goal weight. I felt that is was realistic for me being 5'11" with a large frame. I feel that I can be anywhere from 160 to 190 and be pretty thrilled.

I am 5' 3" and also have a goal weight of 135-130 but my dr has a goal of 142 for me. It's goes by BMI I think. They want to keep you in a safe zone. That's what my dr's office says.

Anything is possible with a lapband, it depends how hard you want to work at it. I'm 5ft 10, my ultimate goal weight is about 145lb.

We've had endless argumetns about goal weights here, but it depends totally on your personality and previous experiences. To me, to stop at a BMI of 28 is doing only half the job. There is no way one earth I would accept that, and I dont buy into all that "achievable goals" rather than "impossible goals" guff, its simply not the way I think. I will never understand it.

BUT - and that's a big but, I can see that others dont think that way. I dont understand HOW they think, but I know not everyone has to think like me or agree with me. Also I've never been morbidly obese, Iw as banded at a BMI of 35. So I am happy to admit, I dont knwow what its liek to be that obese, I dont know what its like to try to overcome a weight problem of that size and I dont know what its like to feel thin at a BMI of 28 - heck, if I could have gotten a lapband at a BMI of 28 I would have because I thought I was huge at that size. I dont see curvy at that size, I see people who are slightly overweight. Its simply my idea of what's attractive- whereas other think normal weight is too thin.

See how many variables there are? The only person whose opinion matters is yours really, its a combination of what you want to do to get there, what you can maintain and how much you're willing to give up to do it. But you CAN do it if you want to.

I'm 5'6" and my doc set a goal weight of 150 for me, but my goal is 140. Even that is 20 lbs above my personal ideal weight for my frame and shape. When not overweight, I am a stick with no hips or breasts, so I look better at the lower end of the weight range. At 140 I'll still have a tummy pooch for sure, and that's not counting the saggy skin from weight loss.

My plan is to re-evaluate once I'm within my normal weight range for my height.

I don't think you're being overly optimistic or idealistic with your goal!

I'm 5 ft and I always wanted to be 120 pounds. I've still got a ways to go, but I hope I'll get there someday

I may be selling myself short but my goal is 150 and I am 5'2". I was a size 10 when I weighed 160 so I thought 150 would be good. Don't get me wrong. I would love to be 130 but I did not want to reach for the highest star either. I am sure my goals will change as I get heathly.

I'm 5'2", and my current 'yay!' goal is 145. My 'wooo hooo!' goal is 135. Do I think I can hit 135? Dunno. I don't even know how I would look at 135. It might not look good on me. The lowest I recall being as an adult was 148 and looking back, I was pretty smokin' if I say so myself. :smile2: But that was 15 years ago, and before two c-sections.

Honestly, I'd be happy if I could be a size 6-8. Hell, who am I kidding. I'd be happy if I could be a 10, but single digits are really preferable.

Ultimately, I think it's how you feel once you get there and what's going on in your life at that time, kwim?

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
