Arrogant Doctors

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Monday, April 21st (woohoo!) and overall, it was a very positive experience. My surgeon was fantastic, all the staff and accommodations at the hospital excellent.

Prior to surgery, I talked with the anesthesiologist and informed him repeatedly I was very hard to intubate as I've had two previous experiences and both times ended up with a very gouged and sore throat. He assured me there wouldn't be any problem and when I asked him if he'd use a scope if necessary, he said yes.

He administered some anesthetic and proceeded to intubate me. To my dismay, I was still conscious enough to feel him repeatedly gouging my throat while attempting to intubate me! I remember thinking, "When is this going to stop!". Then suddenly, I felt the tube just slide down my throat and the horror was over.

I found out later, my surgeon told my wife that he had finished the intubation with a scope! Thank god he took over.

It really peeves me off when doctors refuse to listen to their patients and think they know more about a person than the person themselves.

That's my rant because I think all the trouble could have been avoided if that doctor had actually listened to his patient!

Hey there

Sorry to hear about your experience! My anesthesiologist was arrogant as well. I'm an RN and when he said, "I'm going to give you some medicine to help you relax", I asked what he was going to give me (of course) and he said, "Well, what do you WANT me to give you?" and kind of laughed it off and went on with his speech. I interrupted and said that I'm a RN and he immediatly went on to tell me what the medications are.

I can't stand when MDs think that the patient don't know anything. I'm pre-med now and when I finish, I vow NOT to be one of those docs.

Hope your throat was okay when you woke up!

I had a jerk Anesthesiologist when I had my second daughter. He asked me how much I weighed and when I told him, he said good lord, 280! Then when he was giving me my epidural, he made another comment about my weight. My husband said he wanted to knock him out. I try not to think about it, but sometimes I just think why did this jerk had to put this terrible memory in my head when I was giving birth? Like I don't have enough bad memories involving my weight already! I don't know why some doctors have to be like that!

Thanks, but it is still pretty sore. I think maybe they tend to be arrogant because they don't really have to deal with people very much, so they figure they don't need to.

My niece has had a couple bad experiences with them as well, both for herself and her daughter.

I'm sure you'll be a better doctor than them.

I've always thought it would be productive to give doctors the same tests they give their patients without batting an eye. Sometimes the tests are very necessary, but when they are only covering their butt for medical malpractice reasons and they know full well the patient doesn't need the torture, it's just wrong. They should be subjected to the very same things they do to their patients.

Maybe we need to start intubating them and laughing at their bald shiny heads... think they'd get a clue?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
