After 3 years gaining weight

Recommended Posts

I had the Band put on X-mas of 2004. I lost 110 lbs the by X-mas 2005, 2006 stayed even, the in 2007 till today I have put on 40 lbs. What do I need to do? I still get stuck, but I find myself eating to not so good foods. HELP

Have you had a fill lately? You might need one to get restriction again.

1) I'd suggest talking to your or a nutritionist. I know I started going back to my old eating habits after a few years.

2) How about getting a fill ?

I would also suggest getting a fill even if its just a tiny one. May just be the jump start to get you back on track.

I think you need a fill. You dont get to goal and them maintain for ever after without keeping an eye on your band. I felt I perhaps needed a fill three or four months ago, but elected to wait and really commit to healthy behaviours again, lost a bit of weight, but have now noticed that my natural weight fluctuations are getting larger, even though I have not gained overall. I'm hungrier, can eat more. So I think a tiny 0.1 ml or so is what I need, going in next week.

You do lose Fluid from evaporation so you do still have to top up occasionally.

My fingers are crossed that it's as easy as getting a fill, but I'm afraid it isn't. Over time my fullness receptor (wherever that is) has gotten much less sensitive, and a tight band isn't what it used to be. But I'm still thinking about it, with hope!

In the meantime it's my struggle to even *remember* that I'm banded, and to let my band do its job. You're not alone!!

Alexandra, let me try to ask this clearly. It's more clear in my head than it will translate in text, I fear. Since your rebanding, have you ever had the same sense of satiety that you had with your first band, when you've eaten a "bandster" type meal? In other words, with surgery #2, have you struggled for some sense of restriction the entire time, or was it there at first and taper off, etc?

I had the issue of gaining some weigh back before i had to be rebanded. What I did was joined a program like weight watchers with my trainer to help me have more of a support group setting.

Surgery did not make my battle with food just go away. It is an addiction like anything else that I fight everyday. I think a program like that could help you get back on track.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
