Irrational fears

Recommended Posts

In honor of Gibson, I thought I would tell you, and hope you share any irrational fears you have.........here is mine.

In our town, the tornado sirens go off at 10am on the first Tuesday of the month. My fear is that there will be a tornado that day and I will not take cover.

I am also terrified to go to the Grand Canyon. What if we stop at the Grand Canyon and my kids are so excited to see it, and they run to see it and they go over the edge? Too risky.

I have some more about zoos and spontaneous human combustion, but I will save those for another time.

Zombies. Absolutely terrified that zombies are going to attack. I talk about it so much that I actually received a "zombie attack survival guide" book for christmas.

But I don't know if that would qualify as irrational. Fearing zombies seems pretty rational to me.

Oh man, I am snorting and laughing here. Michelle I think you and I are way too much alike! I don't think those fears are irrational at all! LOL

Oh, and don't even get me started on spontaneous combustion.

I hesitated whether to post or not, as my fear is not irrational...it is perfectly sensible. It is a well-known FACT that in underground parking garages, you will be murdered. Any number of highly reliable sources including movies, tv shows and books have identified that the moment you enter that subterranean artificial structure, you will be murdered. Therefore I either park on the street or take public transit places. I will not willingly go into one.

I think that you are forgetting one major part though. People only get killed in the garages when there is scary music playing in the background. No matter where I am, if that creepy music starts, I AM OUT OF THERE!!! That my friend is not irrational, that is survival.

Irene, there is NOTHING irrational about that. They are scary and gross looking. I think I might add that to my list.

Thanks for that! They ARE gross and dispicable.

If I ever see one at someone's house that I am staying over at, I'm so afraid one will try to crawl on me while I sleep, so needless to say, me no sleep. At all.

What if I open my mouth and it tries to crawl in there while I'm talking... or what if one accidently gets mashed into the food they are cooking or...

need I go on?

Ack!

Do you mean to suggest that not everyone hears the scary music?

......"if Creepy Music plays in a garage and no one hears it..." does it count as 'Creepy'???

It's still creepy, even if no one hears it. So I say yes.

Speaking of creepy, that is how I feel about clowns.

Heights!!!!

To the point that I took my 5 year old daughter to Disney and decide to climb the Swiss Family Robinson Tree House, well my pansy ass manages to get half way up then I wrap my arms around the tree and cling onto the tree like its a life raft and I can't take another step, meanwhile DD is happily climbing farther and farther away from me. "c'mon mommy this is fun!!!" UHH NOO ITS NOT!!!:rolleyes2:

The freakin 16 year old that was "manning" the ride had to come and walk my silly butt down.

Not one of my brighter moments:lol:

Related, but different. My mother (THE font for information you didn't want to know), has advised that every human has injested a number of spiders which have dropped into their mouths whilst they sleep. Oh ick!!!

Yeah the apple shaped Angel running down the street being chased by the 10 year old zombie on the news...that will be me.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
