First Fill....Took 2 Hours!!!

Recommended Posts

Well I had my first fill today. At first the nurse didn't think I needed one since I was doing so well with the just the band. I told her I was hungry and needed it for sure. Well after several tries and an hour and half later they had to bring in the Ultrasound machine to locate my port. By this time I am a little nervous thinking it flipped or fell off or something. Finally after using ultrasound and attempting about 3 more times we were able to access my port. He put in 3ccs of saline. I am hoping that this works and I start having restriction again. They promised me that next time I go in it won't take that long. :rolleyes2:

I'm sorry you had that experience. I had my fill today also 2.5 cc in my 10 cc band. It went smoothly. I don't think what you went through is the "norm". I too am looking for better restriction. Although I did lose 4 lbs since last visit 3 weeks ago so I'm happy. My next fill is May 22nd.

Wow. I've never read anything like that. Our doctors all do the first fill using Flouroscopy so they know exactly where the port is. After the first fill, then I think they can judge better how to find the port. I get my first fill April 29 and I definitely need it as I'm getting hungrier each day trying to stay at the same low level of calories. I'm committed but it is work and toughing it out.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
