Cost of Shakes and Liquid diet

Recommended Posts

OK, so i am pre op!

I am wondering about the cost of the shakes and liquid diet before and after surgery.

Seems I will be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks before and for the standard amount of time after.

What was your cost? More then your average groceries? I'm a party of one so when i grocery shop i spend $200 and don't have to go for another 4 weeks.

I know it's probably the least of my worries but I can't help but to wonder.

Hi, I used the Slim Fast low-carb option (NOT the high Protein which has less Protein ). It cost I think about three dollars a day for two shakes a day.

Pre surgery I was two shakes a day and a low carb meal.

After surgery I was always two shakes a day plus what ever else I was allowed.

I liked the slim fast because they were less expensive and more available than lots of the other things. They have appx. 190 cals and 25 gms of protein.

I don't like eating processed food much, either, even though my brain is like, "That's the tasty stuff," haha.

Have you checked out the Carnation Instant Breakfast drinks that are sugar free and low carbs?? You mix this with skim milk. ;) They are really good and one of the things my nutritionist suggested. Also you can try the whey Protein supplement (any Walmart or nutrition center) but on this one only use half the amount of Protein powder with skim milk to get your Protein. Another protein source but a little higher is the Isopure drinks you can get at the General Nutrition Centers. They have 40-60 gms of protein per bottle and I will usually drink 1/2 of the bottle between meals. But again those a quite a bit higher. I shopped for the pre op and post op and one month after surgery diet according to my nutritionist and it cost me 300 for everything I knew I would need. So that figures to about 150 per month. :tt1: Not everyone follows the same diet from what I can see because I only had 3 days of liquid but the prior 7 days I had to restrict and measure protein, free veggies, and needed carbs, which actually didn't amount to much but a lot better than total liquid diet!!;) Hope this is helpful!:tt2:

the way to go is slim fast low carb 10 bucks just got me 8 of them and I am only using 2 a day. so thats 5 days.... then Centrum has a liquid vitiman about 8 bucks probably last a month.... target has a whey drink mix in what looks like a gallon mayonase jar about 15 bucks. The kroger brand chicken and beef broth are good... and I am favoring the beef broth right now.... So I probably have 2 slim fast a table spoon of Vitamin, and a small can of broth a day... I am trying to get up to 3 slim fast. each slim fast has 20 grms Protein. So you need to do 3 if you can.... But eating right now is just not my maine focus....

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
