Tell me a story...

Recommended Posts

I hope you will indulge me here. I am early in my journey. Well, early in the planning/doing portion (I've been in the Thinking portion for a long, long time).

I have sort of read enough message boards and blogs and such to understand how the surgery changes your life in a practical manner... eating and drinking and Protein and small bites and PBs and tightness and exercise and support groups and fills and unfills etc.

I was hoping some of you would be willing to tell me the story of how this changed your life in other ways. Aside from the eating and such, what else is different? Confidence? Abilities to do things you couldn't before? Sex life? Work life?

Tell me a story....

Thanks.

For me, everything has changed...for the better.

1. I can actually PLAY with my son.

2. I have more confidence.

3. I'm physically stronger.

4. I take more pride in my appearance.

5. I LOVE shopping for clothes now!

6. I'm more aggressive with my husband. (wink, wink)

7. I don't focus my life around my next meal. I enjoy my time.

There are others....just getting started.

Good luck on your journey.

It has practically improved every area of my life and I am only half way to goal.

I am totally more confident.

Sex life is better, because I feel better about myself.

I feel like I could go for that next promotion because I don't feel self conscious about being fat.

I can fit in any booth in any restaurant.

I can sit in any chair and not have to worry if it's too weak to hold me.

I can easily fit in a rollercoaster seat.

I guess it has just taken a lot off my mind of worrying about being fat and accomadations for me.

I stopped taking blood pressure medication. I dont' take any meds now.

My overall outlook on life has really improved.

Oh and last week I was at costco and they had pants there that fit me... that is a first!

The list goes on and on and on....

Well, I honestly can't think of a better decision that I have made in my entire life. I don't miss eating my HUGE-ANTIC portions and gaining more and more weight.

Being down at 211, there are some benefits from being 300 before. haha. Oh, and I know I'm a guy, so I'm going to try to make the benefits as uni-sex as possible. haha.

More energy

Ability to run WAY longer than before.

Doesn't matter what you are, sex gets better. haha.

My confidence level shot through the roof.

I can shop at Abercrombie and whatever seemingly pretentious store I feel like.

People don't think I'm a pig by looking at an empty plate or three.

*UPDATE*

Ignoring the fact that I have an awesome girlfriend, being glared at now and again by the opposite sex doesn't hurt. haha.

I'll put more as I can think of it. :rolleyes2:

I'm living the life I always wanted to live. It's by my design and not someone else's.

I'm stronger, happier, and more fun to be around. I'm daring and joyous. I've made new friends who do interesting things like bicycling, running, and golfing. I don't sit on the side lines.

There is clarity in my decision making because I don't wring my hands all the time saying, oh dear will I fit, will I eat, will I be included.

I'm full of gratitude for my health and my abilities.

And physically: My daughter wraps her arms all the way around me. I have a lap she can sit on. I can go on and on.

After only 2 months.....

My knees don't hurt anymore

I can work out every day and I don't dread it and feel like I want to die afterwards

I have dropped 4 sizes!

I can run, this one thrills my kids

I can go up the steps and not be winded

I have gotten rid of more than half of my closet

I am LOVIN this LIFE!!!

Best of luck to you in your upcoming journey!!!

I just want to cry for the want of it all, reading your replies.

I want the energy, the libido, the quality of sleep, the knees that don't hurt, the lap for my daughter, the ride in the rollercoaster.

I WANT IT ALL.

Why does it have to be so hard, so time consuming, to get it. My job is so busy, I'm out of town so often, I just keep missing appointments. And I know I'm going to have to go on the wild goose chase to get approved by my insurance. I wish I could just pay someone to do it all for me because I don't know how I'll be able to get it done. But I have to do it now because my current insurance will cover if I meet all their criteria, so there's that, but my company is being acquired and by January I might have all new benefits/insurance.

Thank you all for sharing. You all touched on what I wanted/hoped out of this journey. It makes me more determined to find a way.

Can you scratch itches you couldn't reach before??? Right now, I have an itch and - dammit - I can't reach it but I just know if I was 150 pounds, I would be able to.

Do bras fit better? Sexy push-up underwire bras - will I once again be able to pick one off the rack and have it look awesome?

When I tie my athletic shoes, will the bows be in the middle instead of all the way over to the side because I had to cross my leg over my knee in order to be able to tie it?

BELTS - will I wear belts? Cute outside of my shirt/top kinds of belts?

Will I be able to put a napkin in my lap and have it catch any food spills - is it possible I will no longer have to worry about the front of my shirt always being the culprit when I am not as careful as I should be at meals?

Hope this isn't being too nosey but I was just wondering who Ambyr is? Hope I didn't hurt your feelings by asking. Tell me how you have been and a little about your story. Thanks!

more than likely, yup ...

Do bras fit better? Sexy push-up underwire bras - will I once again be able to pick one off the rack and have it look awesome?

yes ... yes yes!!! but when you lose the weight the girls tend to go first... Casique (sp???) has great bras that lift what you have ... fabulous (and sexy)... for the first time in my life, i have matching bra / panties!!!

When I tie my athletic shoes, will the bows be in the middle instead of all the way over to the side because I had to cross my leg over my knee in order to be able to tie it?

LMAO ... yup ... and you'll be able to cross your ankle over your thigh to put your socks on!

BELTS - will I wear belts? Cute outside of my shirt/top kinds of belts?

yup, i even **gasp** tuck my shirt in now..

Will I be able to put a napkin in my lap and have it catch any food spills - is it possible I will no longer have to worry about the front of my shirt always being the culprit when I am not as careful as I should be at meals?

yeah... although im a klutz and still drop stuff on the girls...

Yes, and has been mentioned (repeatedly I believe) some itches are more fun to scratch!!!!

Do bras fit better? Sexy push-up underwire bras - will I once again be able to pick one off the rack and have it look awesome?

My bra size has changed---the band size has gone down, the cup size hasn't....but anything and everything fits better now!

When I tie my athletic shoes, will the bows be in the middle instead of all the way over to the side because I had to cross my leg over my knee in order to be able to tie it?

Yep and you can bend at the waist and tie those shoes without getting light headed or short of breath!!! You can also do your own pedicures!!!

BELTS - will I wear belts? Cute outside of my shirt/top kinds of belts?

Many do-----my belly is still in the way---but not for long!!! TT here I come!!!

Will I be able to put a napkin in my lap and have it catch any food spills - is it possible I will no longer have to worry about the front of my shirt always being the culprit when I am not as careful as I should be at meals?

My napkin now lays nicely in my lap, not tucked under the belly---but no---my boobs still catch anything that drops!!!! Most people own Dust Buster vacuums, I need a Bust Duster.......

My additions to the list of what I can do....

I can ride my horses again.

I can leather up on the motorcycle and not feel like the entire cow.

I no longer obssess over how many pall barers it would take to carry me if I died! I seriously worried over this!

I am thrilled with stepping on the Dr.'s scales. Used to be the nurse had to start the first weight at the 250 mark---now it is the 150 mark!

My grandkids do not recognize old pics of me!!!

I can and do go to public swimming pools with those grandkids.

My belly does not rub the steering wheel!

On New Years Eve, DH and I went out---and at midnight he kissed me and actually swung me around--that was a first EVER!!!! Well....not the kiss....you know!

I actually get hand me down clothes---from others outgrowing them---not me!

This could go on ALL day!!!

I love my life! I love my band!

It is the best decision I've EVER made in my life.

I have more energy

My knees don't hurt

I can wear heels now and my feet don't kill me

I no longer shop in the "plus size" section of the store

I can buy bras at Victoria's Secret (Did that Saturday) Woo HOO

I take my dog for long walks because I want to

I have more confidence

I work out at the gym and don't worry about what people think

I look better

I am healthier

I don't obsess over food (at least not all the time)

I feel like ME again

Not sure about the sex thing (yet) but I know it will be better

Find a surgeon and they will file the insurance paperwork for you and tell you what you need to do. It is much easier than you think and it is worth it. The frustrating part is finding out what the insurance company requires. It is ridiculous in most cases but it you can do it.

I thought my life would change in that I wouldn't be able to eat out or do a lot because of the band but I can do everything I did before but now it is easier.

Thank you all for sharing. You all touched on what I wanted/hoped out of this journey. It makes me more determined to find a way.

It is hard because it's designed to be. If it were a fad diet so many people who are not good candidates would get it.

Jumping through hoops is par for the course for many of us. But it is worth it.

Find a way. You will, it's worth it. Make yourself a priority in you life and boom you'll be banded!

Good luck.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
