Still No Fill 9 Weeks Out !!!!!

Recommended Posts

I am going a little crazy and can't figure out what to do.

I was banded Feb 10 and went for my second post op visit March 31st. I was oh so excited as I thought I was going to get my first fill. In total I lost about 31 pounds and was feeling great, although I hadnt lost an ounce since March 3rd or so. I was so dissapointed when I found out that my Dr. will not give me my first fill until the end of June as he said he wants me to change my mentality toward food before my fill, and apparently gaining weight in this time is a big no no. I feel desperate, like my progress has stopped and I am torn between staying with my Dr. until he fills me in June or going to another clinic.

I must say, my Dr. is great, gave me the best care pre-op and did a wonderful job with the op but I am so frustrated by this.

Anyone else have to wait over 4 months for a fill? If so what was your Drs. reasoning?

No Fill??? Wow, not sure about that one. You have lost 31 pounds and that is fantastic!!! I was banded February 29th and have had 2 fills already. However, I have only lost 12 pounds. And that was in the first two weeks after surgery. Nothing since then and I gained two pounds during the 3 weeks between fills. I had my second fill last week. Now I feel a little more restricted. I am hoping this time works. I don't have any answers for you but I can only give what happened to me. My dr doesn't want me to lose more than 1 pound per week. So maybe that is why I got a fill???

Good luck with your eating. It is soooo hard to change habits especially with out feeling the restriction. I know that until last week I could eat like I always did and not feel full. I just tried my best to eat smaller portions. I did not do well with my food choices. I am having a hard time with that part. I still have the same old cravings so I have to get the old head straight! That is the hard part for me.

:rolleyes2::smile2::smile2:

Four months without a fill is actually fairly normal. My doctor told me (im not banded yet) About 3 of the 10 patients he banded in the last two weeks of december who still havent had fill who are losing weight, and that they slowed their weight loss a little and one even stopped losing for about a month, but didnt gain so his ultimate decision was not to fill for at least a few more weeks and after checking progress. Be patient you dont want to lose weight too fast youll end up making yourself sick or crazy. Make the most of the time till your fill and remember to exercise. Thats my best advice for you. But yes 4 months till the first fill is pretty normal.

Wow! That is a long time to wait. Your weight loss is very good so far! I gained 3 lbs between my post op visit and my first fill and my dr said "yep, it's time for a fill." I agree that it is important that we need to know how to eat correctly with the band but, didn't you go through a nutrition class prior to surgery? I am self-pay so if my dr told me no fill I would be pretty upset. Don't get too discouraged though, you have lost a lot of weight and so when you do get your first fill, you will really be on your way!! :rolleyes2:

Thanks for the replies, feels good just having someone thinking about my situation enough to give me a thought :rolleyes2:

I have a nutritionists and all is good, I am also self pay, hence the feeling of annoyance

Keep up the good work all

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
