Hi there. I have been doing my research on this site since January. I decided to schedule an appt with the surgeon in Feb, had my psych eval and sleep study in March and finally was approved. My primary ins. United Healthcare denied the request because there is an exclusion in the contract, but.. my secondary, Tricare Prime came through for me like I expected they would. I have an appt next week for my second visit with the surgeon, and at that time we will set a surgery date.

Wow! Things went so easily for you! I started about the same time. Did my information seminar at the end of January, saw my surgeon 2 weeks later. Then had to wait a month and a half for my first appt with the nutritionist. I have now found out that I have to see the nutritionist for six solid months and while I see her I have to get a sleep study done, see a psychiatriatrist and get some more documentation before they will even send anything to my insurance for approval. I am looking at the end of September/October before I get my surgery!

I am so frustrated! I want it done now and if I had the 21,000 dollars I would just schedule it on Monday! I have done all the research (for the past 4 months) and know that this is what I want to do.

Sorry for venting. I am very happy for you. I just wish it was that easy for me.

It looks like they would have known to start your pre-op diet when you first started the pre-op stuff. Sorry you are having to deal with all of the frustrations. It will be worth it in the end though! Good luck!!

I completely agree with the previous poster... don't get discouraged waiting on the approval. Aetna kept me on hold for 6 months. I had to follow a supervised program of diet and exercise for 3 months, then Aetna lost my paperwork!!!!

The last month before surgery I had almost given up and was back to laying around and eating too much. Then the call came that shook my world. "You've been approved!" I was shocked and worried... I had quit doing the things that would help with the surgery and recovery time.

Luckily it seems to be working out. I was banded on 4/15 and while I'm still feeling gross, the words of encouragement and the stories of others here give me hope and an anxious outlook to the future.

Hang in there!

It's been almost three weeks, so I'd call the insurance company, if I were you. I've got my fingers crossed, hoping you'll find out this week!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
