Is this right for me?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I have been reading this board for only a few days, but have found it to be very informative with LOTS of friendly people. :biggrin2:

My story, in a nutshell...I'm 39, T2 diabetes, hypertensive and have elevated cholesterol (going on 7 years for all). I'm 5'5" and 197 lbs. I have plugged in my numbers and it says I am not eligible for the surgery. I have tried for MANY years to diet/exercise, nothing works. I am on meds for my problems...honestly, I'm feeling desperate. I get so MAD because I can't stick to a program very long, and I'm worried how everything I put in my mouth is killing me. Wow, that was hard to type out.

I am just starting to inquire about the band, haven't even spoken to my doc about it. I'm going to a meeting at a local hospital next week to find out if it IS right for me.

Thanks for listening. Again, very friendly folks here! :crying:

I cannot say if anything is right for another person. I can say that I think that I have found what will be good for me.

I think you should do your reasearch and see what YOU think about all that you find. There is lots out there and I can only speak for me, but I have been wanting this for a few years now and only now have everything been in place for me to have it done. I am blessed to have the support of my family and my boyfriend and of course the circle of friends that are in my life.

I will remember you in my prayers that you will be shown the way for you to go and that you get the answers you are looking for.

Nancy

Hi! This is a difficult decision to make, that's for sure. If you are seriously considering the surgery, you could check into going to Mexico for surgery. I'm not sure how their requirements differ from those of the US, but a lot of people on these boards have gone there and have great success stories. The only problem might be that you would have to be self pay. Then there is the option of gaining weight to qualify. Someone ran a poll on here not too long ago asking how many of us would be willing to gain weight if it meant we would qualify for surgery and an astounding number voted they would. I know the thought of gaining weight in order to be able to have surgery because of your weight seems contradictory, but it is definitely an option. Good luck to you in whatever decision you make.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
