Week 3 post-op... can I have scrambled eggs?

Recommended Posts

I have been handeling mushey foods just fine and I was wondering if I could have scrambled eggs. Is that allowed in the 2-4 weeks-post op diet?

Scrambled eggs is on my pureed food list for week 3 and 4. I would say yes but you might want to check with your doctor or dietician.

Sadly, my doc says no unless they've been through the blender after cooking. :) Not good. I tried it. Anything that requires chewing is not allowed in his book. Better for the soft foods weeks 5-6 on my doc's plan...

I'm 3 week post op today and eggs were on my mushy list for Day 8-22 post op. Every doctor is different, I'd check with your doctor.

My doctor's diet has 4 phases and eggs are in the 2nd phase which are mushy foods. He would prefer they are eggbeaters for obvious nutrition reasons, but eggs were allowed for me after 2 weeks of liquids. It is best to check with your doctor to find out what he/she wants you to do though.

Every doctor really is different... I don't know that I could've handled some of your guy's doctors. :) So strict. By week three I was having all food soft- real food too. The only thing I couldn't have was beef, seeds, and potato skins. I could have those after my first fill- which was about 5 weeks post op.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
