Liquid Diet = Stupid!! Why????

Recommended Posts

I had to do it for two weeks and lost 30lbs.

Before you tell me how it's not good for you.. I was taking in 1500-1600cal/day and 60g of Protein a day. felt fine and don't think it's a bad thing. If anything it got me kick started and made the first two weeks post op less of a shock to my body.

NYGMEN, I'm not sure I said it wasn't "good" for you, but it isn't an altogether practiced mandate by all Dr's. My husband was banded the same day w/me and Had to be on a partial liquid / low carb diet; BMI dictates your diet based of my Dr's recommendations.

I would never suggest going outside the parameters of your Dr's schedule of pre/post op liquid to food schedule, however it is an obvious observation in reading A LOT of threads that many are paranoid once introduced to foods after being on a liquid diet for 4+wks. It's actually quite normal for that to happen - but the paranoia that comes across is real & more than likely not explained.

My personal observation was just that - I feel it's in a lot of Dr's practice to prepare for the Post Op Diet. Hubby lost 23 - gained 5; took a month to get caught up to start loosing again,....That's a real outcome potential.

Very happy you got the appropriate jump start, and if your a NYG fan - I adore you more:)

So, This makes me think that you are not quite ready to do as your Doctor says. You have to do as Dr. tells you to or you are just going to be hurting yourself in the long run. He knows more about Lapband than we do, When it comes to pre-op.

I didn't think she said Her dr. told her to do that. Maybe he/she did but I didn't catch that. I don't know. I do somethings my dr. tell me that I don't agree with.

I wasn't even told to go on a pre-op diet until two days before my surgery, so I guess every Dr. is diffrent.

luluc, That was not at you. The first poster was talking about how bad it was for you. I was just posting about that. But I'm sure Dr's have there reasons for doing it both ways.

Also, Yes I'm a Giants Fan.. Wait the World Champ New York Giants!!!! :)

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
