your thoughts on stretching our "pouches"

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this question, but I'm trying to find out what the actual facts are about the possibility of "stretching out the pouche"? My doctor says that it is virtually impossible, because of where/how the band if placed, and the major pain and serious problems that I would see right away (GERD, etc). I'm only asking because I've stalled to the point that i was down to 144 a few weeks ago, and have literally gained 5 lbs back in a month! I had a snug fill about 6-8 weeks ago, and it "worked" for a few weeks, then boom, felt like i was basically wide open. Got another fill a couple weeks ago, no change whatsoever. I'm worried.

Any thoughts, advice, support? Thanks all!

Barely anything... In a normal day I am eating a handful or two of walnuts or almonds. Water or Unsweetened Iced Tea. A salad with light dress and some chicken. An occasional piece of something sweet, because I go nuts with total deprivation. Any thoughts?

Are you not eating more because you can't or in an effort not to gain more weight? It sounds to me as though you need to concentrate on healthful amounts and foods, not just quantity. There is no Calcium in your diet at all, dairy foods are important. Are you taking Vitamins? Seems like nutrition is seriously lacking.

Have you spoke with your Dr. ? Are you feeling any of the signs he mentioned, GERD etc.?

And lastly--what about exercise? The more you lose weight wise, the less it takes to sustain you on a daily basis without doing something---eating less, which does not sound like a good option for you, or moving more to burn the calories.

I know I used to lose just eating less, and eating healthy--now I have to work it!! I know eating less is not a healthy option, so I have to burn the last off.......and I weigh more than 149----so my guess is you are going to have to help it along.

Good Luck!

Kat

144 is below my goal weight. To me thats tiny.

My dr. told me soda or carbonation in general could stretch your pouch, and it is possible...It was my understanding that is one of the things a fill is for...then again you eat soo little.

I hope you figure it out.

It seems strange that anything could stretch the pouch since it is open on both ends and doesn't like to be overfilled.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
