Anyone in RI?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! It's good to chat with others from our tiny state (I'm in RI too). I've been banded since 7/24/08. I was originally going to go to Dr. Pohl, but lost my Health Insurance/job, so I became a self-pay. I ended up going to Dr. Ortiz in TJ, Mexico. Everything went well, and I've had 1 fill with him since. I'm ready for another fill. I have already called Dr. Pohl's office and they said that they would perform my fills for $165 (no fluoro). I'm going to either call there to schedule for next week (hopefully), or I wanted to check around and see who others go to/like in RI. I can't afford the flights back and forth to Mexico. Any RI fill Dr. advice??? Thanks.

Hi,

Just to say good luck with your band and hope your feeling well after your recent surgery. I was banded on 10/10/08 by Dr. Giovanni. There is a lot of info to grasp so just take it slow. Good Luck. This website is a great resource & support system.

I am from RI. I am going to be banded by Dr. Dean Roye. I am currently going through the Pre Op testing. I just had my Psych Exam this weekend i have my nutrition evaluation. Has anyone been banded by Dr. Roye? My question is how soon after you have completed Pre op testing do you actually get banded?

Thanks,

Hey Gina #1...I am also from Rhode Island and was banded on December 17, 2008 at The Miriam Hospital. My surgeon is part of University Surgical Associates - at the Collyer Street office...and he is excellent!

I have my first fill at the end of January and my next appointment is February 27th - they didn't say if it would be time for a fill, but as it will be a month from the last one - what the heck..why not?

I hope to be down 40 pounds by this weekend! Not too bad for almost 9 weeks post-op.

Do you attend any bariatric support groups? I attend the one at Miriam Hospital held on the 4th Tuesday of every month.

Look forward to "talking" with you!

Veejee...I see Megan Congdon, who is located in my surgeon's practice at 195 Collyer Street in Providence.

The practice number is 793-5703. She is extremely knowledgeable of bariatric nutritional requirements as she works with the surgeons...she also attends every bariatric support group on the 4th Tuesday of each month in the Baxt Building at Miriam Hospital.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
