Bison Steaks

Recommended Posts

My husband and I had bison steaks last night. They were great. Tasted just like a nice steak and the nutrition can't be beat. For a 3.5 oz steak there is only 90cals and 2.4 grms of fat. A 3.5 oz skinless chicken breast has 7.4 grams of fat. Bison also has higher levels of Omega3 fatty acids, Iron, antioxidants and vitimins like vitimon E. Bison also has 25% more Protein than beef.

We will be adding Bison to or weekly menu.

We buy ground "beefalo" from a man we know. He raises both, and we use the hamburger exclusively because it is SOOOOO lean, and has great taste. This is a ground buffalo meat, but they add some beef fat, to make it where it will cook without falling apart or sticking. It is dark red, and as was said the calorie difference is amazing! We love it! I buy minimally 50 pounds at a time!

We have had steaks--grill them a lot during the summer. But my DH still prefers his rib eye---which is of course much fatter meat! But we use nothing but the beefalo for burgers or tacos, anything we use ground meat in. Love it!

I've never seen it at my local grocery store, but it could be because I've never actually looked specifically for it. I'll look next time I go!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
