After surgery check in for Avengers!

Recommended Posts

Only month later than I expected, my surgery is now about 5 hours away. :scared2:

If you pray, please include PhotoEgor and me. He's WAY more nervous about this than I am, and he's driving me to the hospital

Thank you everyone for your valuable information! When I finally get mine on the 28th, I'll try to remember to walk walk walk walk and then walk some more. No one wants gas pains in the shoulder area. Good luck everyone who is yet to go.

Good Luck to all the ones going in for surgery. I am now 2 days postop. Still having some gas pains but not real bad. Just need to toot them out lol. Feeling ok. Groggy from the pain med which i hate to take but it helps releave some of the soreness. Otherwise just trying to getin the groove of this new diet and way of eating. Not too bad though cuz I am really not even hungry. Gotta force my self to eat and to drink but have to keep the fluids in ya. Hope everyone else is doing well

banded on monday and surgery took longer than expected due to enlarged liver and difficult to hold it back or work around it.very dry mouth and lips in recovery room. hard to find comfortable laying down position (not a back sleeper). so far so good at home. not horribly hungry and not too 'gassy' but no bm yet either. incisions starting to itch. percoset helping with pain.

I'm home! Surgery was yesterday about 1:30 and I was home today about 11. I have a little discomfort but nothing to bad. Have been walking, sipping and resting. I feel the gas pains in the center of my back. Not unbearable but you know they are there. Hopefully all the walking will help.

got home today after surgery 4/8. Am fairly sore but the Lortab elixer helps. Am sipping, walking a lot in the house and resting. Everything went very smoothly. No gas pains yet...i keep thinking i'll get some but maybe I won't. Dr. Curry and hospital staff were awesome. Taking it easy.

I'm glad everyone is doing so well! It helps puts my mind at ease about my upcoming surgery on the 28th. I have one question for those of you who have had surgery. You mention your stomach making noises. Is it like the noises my stomach is making on day 6 of my liquid diet? Does it just sound like your stomach is growling? Hungry? Will people who don't know we had surgery wonder what's wrong with us? =)

Congratulations to all of you that are now home and recovering from surgery, and best wishes to the rest of you who are counting the days until we receive our bands. I can't wait for mine!

What I experienced was 'gut' noise like Water gurgling. They werent a big deal and probably were only heard by me. No hunger pangs though. I havent had those since just before the surgery.

My surgery was 4/2 a week ago today. I feel great. Everything went well. My family pampered me the whole weekend. I went to my post op visit on 4/7 and dr told me to do liquids for 2 weeks. So far not so bad. But I was drinking beyond being full. Just to try to get in more liquids. I cant get in a whoole shake quite yet. and definitely cant get in 64 oz of liquid. i was scared last night because i drank beyond being full and my side hurt really bad. So i am back to only taking in what i can. my sips were larger soo i cut back on that. will i be able to get in the shake for b,l,d + 64 oz?

I was banded April 4th. I am supposed to be drinking 3 carnation instant Breakfast shakes per day. The best I can do is 2 shakes per day and 4 oz of high Protein Jello. It gets me about 50 grams of Protein a day which is within the limit set by my doctor and nutritionist. Does anyone else have a problem with being really tight in the morning? I've had to do Jello in the morning because the CIB feels like it's too thick to go down. Will the morning tightness go away in a few weeks?

Thanks,

kim

My biggest problem was the CIB also. In the pharm section at Walmart you can find Myoplex lite ready to drink shakes that are low carb and really smooth. The french vanilla has 20g Protein and is really good. They also have strawberry, choc, too that have 17g protein. They seen to go down a whole lot easier for me.

Ive been drinking (eating?) 3-4 Ensure High Protein Shakes plus 3-4 .5l waters per day. Havent had any trouble taking them other than being tired of them. I do like the results though... Just went to the doc today and have lost 8 pounds since Monday... 26 total since preop appt.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
