Getting Underway At Last

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone - I'm from Kittery Maine. I am just getting started in the process to get approved. I'm told that if all goes according to plan I should have my banding before the end of the year. For the first time in a long time I feel excitement about the future! I will have my procedure at Maine Medical Center in Portland Maine. I have met the Surgeon at an informational meeting and will start attending a support group soon.

Hi! Good for you. I was in your shoes about 4 months ago and I have completed all the necessary appointments and classes and am now waiting for insurance approval. I can honestly tell you that it has gone by so quickly. It was a lot of work, don't get me wrong, but it was worth it. Have you met with the surgeon yet? I know for me I had to see a psychologist, cardiologist and a pulmonologist. I also had to attend classes at the hospital where my surgery is being done. These were nutrition classes and cost about $500! I have also been to my PCP every month for 4 months to have my weight charted. It is something that is so worth it and you will find everyone here is so supportive and helpful. Any questions or if I can be of any help please let me know.

Thanks so much for the encouragement...I have heard the surgeon at an informational meeting, but have not met him one on one yet. I will start meeting with the therapist this week and will start in a support group next week. I will also meet with a nutritionist also at some point. I also have 115 lbs to lose and will probably have to lose 10% of my starting weight before surgery. I have to travel about an hour to get to the appointments, that is the only real hardship right now. TTYS :purplebananna:

thanks Honeybee.. i owe much of it to working my tail off at the gym in the beginning (i've slacked off lately and my weight loss shows)

the TT & Lipo was about 12,500 including 2 nights in the hospital (dr initially wanted one, but i had a fever and extremely low BP)...

i didnt even pursue the insurance route, i just wanted it done and i had the funds to do it.

I wanted to wish you the best in the coming times until the banding. I have been where you are and I have been going through the process since December and I am finally going to have it place next Tuesday. I am so excited and I am ready!! I am blessed with many that are going to help support me in my efforts and with this and Gods help I know that I will make it. I am so glad that I found this site and that I can finally talk with others that know what I am experiancing and can help shed some light on the questions that I might have.

You will see that the time will fly by and soon, you will be on your way to a new life style too!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
