Why did you get the band?

Recommended Posts

I am a 32 BMI and am going to get the band. I have been overweight for several years and diet/exercise continue to fail for me. I finally decided it was time to take action when I was on an elevator full of men and they all got off the elevator before me. It was if I was invisible. I am dying to know what was the moment that triggered everyone else to get the band.

Actually my decision to get the band comes from being obese for alot of my life w/my weight doing the yo yo effect. I have a son that is 3 and it is important to me too be around and to be an active parent for him. I don't want him to suffer from my weight issues.

Take care

Jennifer

I'm a 35BMI and getting banded in less than a week--Yay!!

I just woke up one day and after not wanting to put on any of my tight and unflattering size 20's, I decided it's time to do something!! I'll be 30 this summer and wanted to be healthy by then. I've lost 25lbs 4-5times in the past few years only to gain that back and then some. Strictly diet and exercise was not working for me to get and stay healthy because the only way I could lose that weight was 6 days/wk of 1.5hrs in the gym! So that morning I woke up and thought, "What the heck am I waiting for?!!" I could yo-yo with my weight for the next 5 or 10 or 50yrs... OR, I could take charge NOW and reap the benefits for years to come:) A month after I scheduled my LBS in Mexico, I became engaged and I really think it all comes back to that whole "what are you waiting for??!" question...

my heart. I was told if I didn't lose weight, my sleep apnea would not get any better and even with the cpap machine, I would continue to stop breathing. My heart would stop at night and continue to go out of regular beat thru the day. My weight was slowly killing me.:frown: No more cpap, heart rate is improving and hopefully for me, a long life ahead.:tt1:

I saw my doctor today about his decision regarding my surgery and I'm being banded on Thursday! I have a BMI of 32, so it's slightly unusual but he was willing to be persuaded by research that I brought along to show him about low BMI banding in Australia. Thursday....whoa, I'm excited and nervous!

Meds....I'm tired of taking medication....for high blood pressure, for cholestoral, for whatever......

I'm tired of limited selection in clothing as well......it seems that most places assume that fat girls are either:

A. Rich.....ie, Lane Bryant

or

B. Blind....as in every women's section at most stores

My blood sugar was out of control, and I was going to have to start diabetes meds that would have prevented me from riding horses.

I had tried for over a year to get it back in the normal range with diet/exercise, with no success (lost/gained 38lbs twice).

My levels are perfectly normal now--I stopped tested it daily back around Thanksgiving.

Or non-existant, as in Target. I really like them otherwise but their plus-size department leaves a lot to be desired.

I got the band to live a longer, healthier life, and to look and feel better in my clothes! ;-)

:sad:My turning point was that this year is my 40th birthday. My husband was killed by a drunk driver 4years ago this month. although ive never been thin, i lost whatever control i had on my weight while trying to stay sane and deal with my life alone.....thinking about how my husband would have been disappointed in how much i weigh now was the extra push i needed. not that he wouldnt have loved me regardless, but that i cant do some of the stuff i used to with him, like running, biking...ect. i can never have him back...and that will be a lifelong regret and heartbreak, but i can do this for myself and at least feel like im worth what he thought i was.....

I started with a BMI of 32 and desperately wanted the band because my weight has gone up and down for all of my adult life. My most recent successes have been with diet pills, which act as an appetite suppresent, but when I stopped them, I would gain the weight back. I feel like I can do it with some help, and this sounds like the help I need. So, I'm very happy (and a little nervous) about my decision.

By the way, can anyone help me learn to create a new post? I've never done it, just replied. Cannot figure it out! Thanks

i have been overweight most of my life. what triggered me to get the band? when i went for my physical and the doctor told me i had diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. too bad i waited that long. i can only pray that others get help before they get the medical issues i have. by the way when they did my abdominal sonogram they discovered i had a tumor on my adrenal gland. it was producing no symptoms but once they go over 4.5cm they have a tendency to turn cancerous. mine turned out to be 9cm and not cancer. if i hadnt gone for the sonogram in preperation for the band surgery i never would have known i had the tumor. and things could have turned out a lot differently.

i kept saying to myself i would do something if i went up to a size 12 jean... then a size 14... then a size 16. when i hit size 16 i knew i needed help and being a binge eater i knew i would need medical help.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
