I had my first fill yesterday. They put in 3 ccs and he said I would notice a difference and I don't at all! It seems like I can still eat as much and I don't have a problem getting anything down and I feel so discouraged. I don't get another fill for 2 weeks and I feel like what a waste. I should have *some* restriction. I ate almost as much as my husband tonight for dinner!!

Anyone have any words of encouragement?:cursing::lol::cursing:

All I can tell you is to hang in there. I didn't get any restriction from my first fill either. Some people can take 3+ fills to find any restriction. My second fill appointment the soonest I could get it was 4 weeks after my first (this friday) and I hope that it brings me some restriction.

*hug*

I have my first fill tomorrow and I'm hoping I get some restriction. I wonder what criteria they use to decide how big of a fill to do?

I had my first fill last week. It helped. At least I'm not wanting to eat everything in sight. I've gotten my courage back up and have an appt. for my second fill next week. Any one else get afraid every time they are going to get a fill? It's not the actual fill. I think it is the fear of the changes with each fill. Oh, well. Thanks for "listening".

I could eat like a horse after my first fill too. I was still losing weight, very slowly though. I thought I would give it an honest effort and waited 2 months between fills. I got the second fill about 3 weeks ago and OMG, it has been so hard on me. I went from eating a lot to eating next to nothing. PB'd a few times, still slime every other day. I can't believe the difference. I have lost 8 lbs in 3 weeks and I am still very tight. I can only eat a few bites of dinner and I have to stop. I started sharing a plate with my 18 month old, that is how little I eat. Water is tough to drink until the afternoon. I burp everytime I swallow something. It is not good to be too tight, very frustrating. You want to eat everything in sight but your body will not let you. If you try to eat a lot you will pay. Just sit back and relax, restriction will come in time. Good luck

Brenda I hope your fill goes well. I have my first fill tomorrow also and am a little nervous and I really hope I get restriction as I have none at this point.

Audrician, are you glad you got the last fill? Do you think you will have to have some removed? The problems people have seem so scary to me, but I also feel I have to get another fill to use my band properly. Anyway, thanks for the comment.:huh2: I hope things go well for you.

I was like this and had a slight unfill today. I was miserable because I felt full ALL the time. And I would only eat because I knew I needed to, but even then, I could only eat a bite or two. About the only thing I could eat without PBing or sliming was -- get this -- SUNFLOWER SEEDS! I guess because I could grind them down to dust before I swallowed!

But the other morning I got up, tinkled, took a sip -- A SIP, MIND YOU! -- of Water, went to let the dog out, weighed, booted up the computer, let the dog in, started a load of laundry, pulled the dry towels out, folded them and put them away, was headed back through my bedroom to get dressed when I burped almost a mouthful of water! I asked my husband who was laying in bed watching CNN -- "How long ago did I walk out of here...?"

He said, "25-30 minutes, why...?"

I told him, "Because the one SIP of water I took STILL has not gone down."

He told me "Call and make an appt. TODAY or "I" will!!!"

Thanks everyone for the encouragement! I know I won't get total restriction my first fill I just thought I would notice a difference. All I ate yesterday was Protein thinking it would help and it didn't. Guess I'll try again today. I'm debating calling my doc to make sure this is where they want me to be b/c my doc said I would notice a difference and I don't.

I'm not really afraid of all the problems that come along with it. If I'm sliming and PB'ing a lot I will go right back in for an unfill. I don't want to live miserably!

Good luck everyone on your fills!

With my fill center you have to really be dramatic and be like "I'm starving.. I'm so hungry all the time".. (if you are that is, you don't want to lie), but that's how they gauge how much fill to give you. I have two other friends who go there and they say that if you just casually act like, "yeah I need a fill" they don't fill you as much. My first fill was pretty decent, but only lasted a week. But it was perfect because I could eat regular foods, but just not a lot and I wasn't hungry. I hope its like that every time. Sadly, it just didn't last long enough. Now I'm stuck at this weight again not going up or down until Tuesday.

***Update***

I called my doc and told him I felt exactly the same. He said if I still feel that way by Monday to come in and they would give me another fill. My doctors are sooo understanding! I am so grateful I went with them for my surgery!!

I just got my fourth fill today, I now have 7.5 cc's in my 10cc band- I have not felt a drop of restriction until TODAY. AFter all of my other fills, I felt exactly the same as when I went in. Today- I am having to really sip sip sip my liquids to get them down. I can DEFINATELY tell a difference, so just hang in there. I was exactly like you and actually sent my Dr. a desperate email explaining that I could eat a 10oz steak and baked sweet potato NO PROBLEM and that I was gaining weight and was always hungry. Our fill center seemed very light on giving significant fills as well. I just felt like i needed something more to take me to that level I've been waiting for. I cross my fingers and hope that this lasts! Hang in there and be your own advocate- let them know that you feel like you need MORE! gOOD lUCK!

I went through this exact same thing when I was first banded and was soooo discouraged. And my doctor only gave me 1.5 cc's each fill! So it took what seemed like FOREVER to get restriction. But finally, with my 5th fill, and 7.5 ccs of Fluid, I got restriction and am off and running on losing weight. It was really hard being patient and I hated every minute of those months but I am so happy now. And in a way I can honestly say I am kind of glad for the slow start because it allowed me to get used to restriction slowly. I didn't just wake up one day only able to eat tiny amounts of food and the small amounts of my fills helped me avoid over filling and I am thankful for that because being too tight is not fun. I will admit I was jealous of people who had fills put in during surgery and whose doctors gave 3ccs at a time, but in the end it kind of all levels out. You all end up at similar spots after one year of being banded. In ten years we will look back and it isn't going to matter if we got restriction in one month or five.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
