Banded AND hernia repair ??

Recommended Posts

Anyone had to do both the lap-band and have a hernia repair at the same time ???? I am facing this and am kind of scared ;). Just saw my surgeon for the first time today and he says I have a hernia  and he can do both the repair and band together. Anyone else have this done ??? How bad is it ???

When my Doctor did my surgery he found that I had a Hiatal Hernia and he fixed it at the same time. I wasn't even having any symptoms of one so I was shocked. He said it was very small so I must have just got it. lol

Good Luck with your surgery.

Blessings,

Brenda

I had both done and I didn't know any different. I had some shoulder pain for about 5 days and was told that part of that was the gas they put in you but also from the hernia repair and it affecting nerves.

I only took prescription pain meds for 3 days (and only a couple times a day) and was off all meds at 5 days. The heating pad was my best friend for about a week though.

I had a hernia found when they opened me up. Never, ever had symptoms before. Had to hold off on an exercise routine and lifting for an extra two weeks and I felt that I was in pain longer because of it.

I had a hernia repair when band was placed. I knew I had it and had reflux from it for years.

Fixed now and no reflux! I think I had a little more post op swelling because of the additional work but no big deal.

I had a hernia repair with mine, too......lifting restrictions were lengthened a little.....obviously, I don't know if it caused more pain or not.....but I'm okay now, two weeks out.

I had the samething everyone else has said. But mine was a large one. I didn'thave any problems. I think it is a minor thing once they are in there. Just think of it as 2 for the price of one.

My surgeon found a small hernia that the barium swallow missed, and he fixed it with a couple of stitches. (Showed me the pictures too.) The good news is that perhaps insurance will now pay something toward the surgery, because up till now, I had to self-pay it all!

Yep - I had a rarer type of hiatal hernia, they call it Para-oesophageal hiatal hernia. With or without the band, I would have had to have surgery, it can be life threatening I have later found out.

They repaired this, and also stretched my esophagus because of some other issues with the hernia. Anyhow, since they repaired the hernia, I have had ZERO reflux! I feel like a new woman for sure!

They did this all at the same time they put my band in so it was a simple surgery. I did have to spend just one night in the hospital, and the only problem I had was my throat was really sore, but I'm sure that was from the stretching of my esophagus.

I stayed off work for about 3 weeks, but that was my choice because I had a job that allowed it with 100% pay. I took advantage of that.

I could have returned without anypain in about 7 days I think.

Best wishes to you!

I too had a hernis didn't know it and was discovered during my procedure and the Dr. fixed it with no complictions and I would not have known any different with my recovery. My reflux has gone away thank goodness and that horrible pain I would get in my breat bone area is gone. It has been all good. Be happy they can repair it all at once and you will feel a lot better.

Best of lluck

Hello-

I am being banded on May 13th and will have a small hernia repaired at the same time. I understand it is not a big deal, but I am also a little more concerned. However, I am really looking forward to not having reflux. I had it so bad a few years ago that the acid had caused one of my tonsils to swell to very visible size - they thought I had cancer at first!! I take pills everyday and would love to not have to.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
