I just bought Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band-everything you need to know before and after surgery to lose weight successfully, by Robert Sewell and Linda Rohrbough. It's the only one they had at Borders. I'm only on page 55 and so far it's a lot of medical talk regarding all bariatric procedures in general, but the rest focuses on just the band (I think). I'll let you know a review when I'm done. :puke:

If anyone has read any of the books mentioned, or any others, please give me your opinions. I'd like to read as much as I can about the AGB to be totally prepared. I'd love to know why you wouldn't recommend some too!

Thanks!

It comes with your appliance...yes, in the box w/ the band. Your doctor should give it to you...if they didn't, ask for it as you paid for it when you purchased the band.

It comes packed that way from the supplier and your doctor surely doesn't need another one lying around the office...they probably just throw them away.

But get it! It's yours and it's free!

It tells everything

about the band

about the procedure

about aftercare

about maintenance

Thanks, but I'm not banded yet. I was looking for "pre-band reading" so that I can be prepared with info when I go see the surgeon. I don't want him to think I went into this blindly. ;)

I haven't read the others, but Lap Band for Life was written by my doctor and it is pretty lame. So, it's a non-recommendation. I think they are coming out with a 2nd edition that hopefully will be improved. It is poorly written, but has basic info.

Cool! Free? Even better yet! Where can you get it?

You might try going to Lapband.com (allergan/formerly Inamed's) site and requesting one. Or ask one of your local band docs if they have a spare you can borrow/keep.

I'm also interested in Ali's & O'Brien's books. Ali's sounds like it could be motivational and O'Brien has co-written multiple long term case studies on the band so his could be very incitefull on the facts/figures side.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
