Hello from Illinois

Hi Spal,

I too had my band done at Synchrony Health in Oak Brook, Il. with Dr. Brad Watkins, March 31, 2008. I am doing great and have never felt so welcomed and cared for by any medical practice, I mean there is not a mean, rude, or uncaring person in the whole facility, and the dr's bedside manner is the best, he's personable and you can tell he's really interested in the wellfare of each and every patient. So if you're looking for the best come to Dr. Watkins and Dr.M.Arain, I can't tell you enough of how pleased you'll be, and they are excellent at helping with insurance issues, Good luck to us all, Roz.

Hi FragileFeline,

Congrats! I just heard today that my insurance claim has been approved and am moving towards scheduling my banding—hopefully for the end of the summer. (I have a class in July that will require a lot of movement and I don't want to risk being unable to participate if my recovery time is longer than anticipated, which is why I'm waiting).

Do you belong to any support groups in the city, or interact with any folks in the "banding community"? I am new to this, but would love the chance to meet/talk with other Chicagoans who have had/are going to have the procedure. I live on the Northwest side, but work downtown.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
