I just had my band replaced after nearly two years when it slipped. Im wondering who out there has had their band the longest. Just wondering if there is anyone who has had it for a long time with no problems. Who is the oldest bandster out there I wonder?

Funny story - My op was last Tuesday to have the band put it - my sister had her's removed last Wednesday because it had slipped. They told her to wait 12 months before having it replaced. She had her's for 4 years. She got a vomiting bug (we think food poisoning from seafood) which made it slip.

that is my worst fear is I will lose my band years down the road. do they know what caused your slip?

I think that there is a member on this board from one of the org US clinical trials around 2001

I've seen in the area of 7 - 9 years pop-up on occasion. People who went to Europe, Asia or MX before the band was approved for use in the US.

Just over 5 years for me, other than 2 overfills (recent one was last weekend when i was rushed to hospital for an emergency defill) but no other problems ,,, touch wood ...

I spoke to my Doctor last week about slipped or defective bands and if its not causing you any pain you will wait about 8 weeks (if in pain its done straight away) for the old one to be removed and while u are under u are replaced with a new one then and there...i asked because i was also concerned about losing my band for a lengthy period of time ...

12 MONTHS!!! Oh, that would make me cry. I have to wonder what the benefit is to waiting that long. I would think out with the old, in with the new same day would make more sense.

Back to the origianl post - I have a friend that was banded almost 4 years ago and she has not had any problems. Still good restricition. No slips, flips, etc.

Does insurance pay to have a new band put in if you slip or something?

I think on this board, fivish years is about the longest, although I think that there's someone around who's been about 7 years, cant for the life of me remember her name.

Mine's coming up to 4 years now, touch wood, absolutely no problems at all, weight gone, has stayed away, life perfectly normal.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
