Recommended Posts

Ok.. you all are gonna think I'm nuts, but I just Got the APPROVAL from my insurance company for Surgery on April 16th, after waited 4 mo.. and It finally came. Now I'm in a frakin out!!! All of a sudden, I'm scared!!! I'm a very strong individual and I don't know where all this is coming from... I"m Excited and Scared a the same time... The Dr.'s Office left me a message on my cell phone, and I'm afraid to call them back!!!!! Why am all of a sudden having all these mixed emotions????? I feel like I need to take a xanax now... LOL Did anyone go though these different emotions at the same time, once they got their approval??? Or do I need mental help???? lol Please let me know how you all felt, once your approval came though!!!!

:lol::lol::waytogo::smile::lol::tongue:

JerseyGirl2u,

I went through the same thing. I actually had a date and everything. Went through all the pre-op (including endoscopy) and chickened out 2 days before. I called and cancelled. I just had a weird feeling.

About 2 months later I decided that I wasn't going to be able to do it on my own and needed the help of the band. I called my doctor back and they scheduled me within 4 days (guess they wanted to get me before my fear did again). I was banded May of last year and I don't regret a thing.

Perfectly normal!

In fact, if you aren't at least a little nervous, you should wonder if something's wrong. This is one of those life-changing things.

Hope you go forward and not let the fear get the best of you!

You know I am waiting now to get my approval... so im sure i will have those mixed emotions as well... most of all you are scared of the unknown... you have never been down this road before and you have no idea what to expect.. but I am right there with you trust me... But on one of the other boards there are before and after pictures and omg.. that gave me my motivation to start loosing before i get my band date.. I went today after work and picked up about 5 cases of the slim fast optima.. and a case of Water... and i already have a gym membership... and new workout clothes and running shoes so go figure... The before and after pictures of the one's that have already had the procedure was all i needed to see to let that scared feeling go right out of the window... check it out and trust me you will feel the same....:biggrin2:

i had been researching for a few months and knowing i was self paying i knew things would happen quickly. i went in for my initial consultation on march 19th and while i was there we scheduled my surgery for april 21st. i have to pay 3 weeks in advance which is this upcoming monday! yes, i'm freaking out. it's a lot of money. should i try ONE more time on my own before surgery? what if i'm not strong enough to make the band work?

so yes... we ALL have second thoughts!

It makes you 2nd guess yourself, if this the right thing to do... Tami.. I gotta say, you had me crackin up.... cuz I can see myself doing the same thing as you!!!!!!! Thanks again everyone... xoxo

I have my surgery scheduled either April 28th or May 2nd, waiting for office to give me a date as May 2nd will work better for me. Anyways, I have been researching the band for over 2 years now and I am finally going through with it. I too am so scared, I am a strong, goal oriented person who so desperatly wants a happier, healther, skinnier life, but I am scared! I love looking at all the before and after pictures too, and that just makes me that more motivated and less scared. It's not going to be a easy start I am sure and I am sure there will be alot of emotional days ahead of me, but I know they will pass. I keep telling myself that this will help me to "Eat to Live", not "Live to Eat" Who doesn't love to eat, but when does the sanity stop? Lap Band hear I come! Wish me luck!

Good luck to all of you waiting to be banded. I know you will be relieved once it's done and I'm sure you will not have any regrets. Just think about how much your life will change over the next year. It's gonna be fantastic and you will be so proud that you chose the band to help you with your weightloss. Take care everyone.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
