Port Sites....are they ugly ?

Recommended Posts

Some people are going to think I’m a little vain, however….I want to know what the port looks like under the skin. My surgeon said it would be placed on my right abdominal side. I wanted it under my arm, he says no.

Does it stick out more and more as you lost weight, like a big mole (as in animal) under the skin ?

Does it get in the way of normal activities ?

Does it get in the way of "extra-curricular" activities (wink-wink) ?

My great-great Uncle Clive had a lump on his head…will it look like that ?

Mine is in the same location your surgeon plans on placing yours. Since losing weight, it's rode further up about 2 inches, and does protrude some. Nothing to bad, my tummy had the least amt of "fat" around it, so as it's getting flatter it does stick out more. Not sure how much more it will protrude, or if it will bother me, right now I can live with it...

It "sometimes" is an issue with a lot of abs exercises (tends to be sore) - and have not had any problems w/the extra curricular activities:):)

my port does protude slightly, but i have always had a very fat free abdomen and it barely shows. it is not unsightly or heinous, it is just there and i don't mind a bit if it shows. i am secure with my decision and don't care if the world knows. to each his own. g2s

My port sticks way out and will even more when I have a Tummy Tuck. I have to admit it doesn't look great - I have very little fat in that area and you can see the port in detail. BUT in terms of vaneness I much prefer a little port sticking out instead of being fat.

Mine is under my right boob right near the bottom of my ribs. They had to put it there since I carried all my weight in my rear-end and my hips and I have a very distinct waist line. I could feel it from day one but I don't think it's "ugly" per say. It does protrude a tad bit but since it's up so high I guess that's why it doesn't look bad.

Mine doesn't protrude. The ones I have seen just looked like a bump under the skin. If it concerns you, request a low profile port.

Mine does protrude a bit, but it's only been 2 months. I guess I don't care too much about the scar, because I had gall bladder surgery the "hard" way- a lonnnnnnng incision all the way diagonally, and it's ugly too. But then I'm not trying to win a bikini contest at my age. I'll trade a few scars for a healthy body any day!!!

Mine is under my ribs on the left side. So far it doens't stick out at all, But I can feel it more now that I have lost over 50 lbs. and when I lay down I can really feel it. as for the scar, Well let's just say that it blends in nicely with ALL my stretch marks. I had 2 pregnancy's and one was with twins, and then with all the weight I gained and lost and gained again and again I will never wear a bikini even if I get my tummy tuck....

And I would have to say Mine has helped with the extra Curricular activities, helped me lose 50+ pounds so the sex dept is lets say, much more satisfying these days...:-P

I like the idea of having the port more under the right breast, that's the small side anyway...girls you know what I mean. I too have a smaller waist than rear so maybe that would work better.

The scars I don't care about. I don't have a gall bladder scar but I do have an 8 inch verticle slice from my belly button downwards from my hysterectomy. My scars usually heal over well although if in a few years I need a Tummy Tuck I'll be happy to get rid of the hyster scar.

Thank you again for your posts. Everyone's input really helps me.

A lot of people have theirs replaced with a smaller, "low profile" port that doesn't stick out so much when they are at goal. You can't have it at first because it is much harder for the fill doc to find when you are still overweight. But sometimes that can be done at the same time as a Tummy Tuck so you don't have any additional scars. Mine doesn't stick out (I'm 20 lbs from goal) but I have always been able to feel it, and moreso now. It's never been a problem with any kind of activity whatsoever. And the scars are going away now, a year after my surgery. I'd much rather have a port stick out than still be fat.

Glad to help, BanTam!

I didn't know about them until after I was banded, either. And honestly, I may never get one, but it's nice to know it's available if I decide to get it.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
