8 days post op and wondering...

Recommended Posts

I am still tired and sore. Is this normal for 8 days post op? I am back to work but it is hard sitting all day and it makes me very tired. My husband feels I should be back to normal and is wanting me to go out tonight to a local bar to meet with friends. I do not feel I am ready and do not want to have the temptation to have a drink or sit after sitting all day. Thoughts?

Tell your hubby to bugger off. :) J/k.

I didn't feel good enough to really go out for about 2 weeks. I went back to work at a week, but with walking and all that I was still very sore. If you're not up to it, stay home and assure him you'll go when you're feeling up to it.

I double that. I was so sore and down for 2 weeks. Even when i went to work after a week, I was in pain. I felt like a hunchback. I still have not gone to a restaurant or out with friends...it's been three weeks. Just give it time...and tell your husband that others went through the same thing.

took me about a week and a half to feel "decent" and about 2 weeks for the pain to ease up. it's totally normal. you are totally normal!

I was banded on 3/11. I stayed home from work for one week. The second week, I had planned to go back full-time, but found I couldn't make it more than 3 or 4 hours. I was exhausted and sore. I had to put a heating pad on my stomach every evening. By the end of the second week, all of a sudden, I began to start feeling semi-normal again and worked full days this past week. I think the thing we (and those around us) need to remember is that we had major surgery. Our liver was moved, work was done inside us that will take 6 weeks to heal, and a foreign object was put inside our stomach. And we had anesthetic. All of this is a lot for our bodies to adjust to, and it takes time.

I am so glad that I'm not alone....My surgery was 3/17/08; I went back to work full time after a week, a desk job, but my lower back gets sore from sitting and I just want to come home at night and jump into bed with my heating pad. I don't have alot of energy but am feeling better than I did last week!! Thank god shoulder pain is gone. Wishing everyone well.

Thanks for all the feedback. I am feeling much better this week as far as pain but still tired. I did tell my husband I just couldn't go but for him to go without me so that is what he did and I went home and crawled into bed with heating pad.

It took me about 3 full weeks until I felt "100%" again. I was still a little tired and worn up until that point.

Hi I am new to this board. I was banded on 3/24 so I am 8 days post op. I am still very sore my stomach still fills swollen I can't stand any pressure to my stomach yet. I was just wondering how long this will last. I am afraid to get on the scale. I don't think I have lost much. Has anyone felt this way

I had my lap banding done eight days ago too. I never knew a small amount of hot mashed potatoes could taste so good! I'm having a real problem with the Protein supplements. I hate the way they taste. I've been gagging down an ensure followed by a spoonful of Jello to mask the taste. Aslo, the Special K protien Fruit Drinks are very good. Also just started Special K Cereal that I put in the blender with milk and a few frozen strawberries. I let it get soggy then blend. Sprinkle a little splenda on top and it's really not bad. Also, I thik I'm going to try the New Whey protein bullets. Anyone have any thoughts about them?

I have not tried the bullets but let me know how they work and how you take them I would be very interested. I am so ready not to feel so tired all the time. the pain has lessened to just the port site which is good. Oh and last night I had mashed potatoes too and yummy after just liquids

I was banded on 3/24/08 so I guess that makes me 8 or 9 days post op. I don't know if I should count my surgery date or not. Anyway, I went back to work yesterday. About half-way through I needed liquid Tylenol and a nap (I took both). I am not in the mood to go out. I was ready for bed at 8:30 last night. I am sure I'll be ready for bed around the same time tonight if not sooner. Functioning is one thing - going out is completely different. I don't want to give marital advice - but if you're not ready to go out, then you should not go out. My daughter wanted spaghetti this week. As much as I wanted to make it for her, I was not sure if I could handle the temptation, so I decided not to do it. Don't put yourself in harm's way and don't wear yourself out. If going out tonight will make it difficult for you to go to work tomorrow, then choose the important activity and go with it - either going out or going to work.

I actually took some of these posts and read them to my husband so he would see that the way I feel is pretty much normal. I think it eased his mind and he realized I need to heal.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
