I don't get it. why would they need tongs. How did they clean themselves before surgery?

Tongs are recommended for really high BMI people immediately after surgery because the incisions make it hard for them to stretch around to the back.

It's not a DS thing though. The first time I read about using tongs was here on LBT.

True, yet not. The higher BMI DS folks have more cutting and more dissection, they can't... well, they don't have long enough arms. :blush:/

I started at a BMI of 61.9 419 lbs I've never needed tongs when I have had surgery and I won't when I get banded in 3 weeks lol...

I guess the DSer's arms get tired from having to wipe so often...LOL

HAHA....that cracked me up! Yes, I am easily amused by bathroom humor! I will also share a horrible tale that happened Thursday at work. My coworker who had DS was complaining about stomach trouble after lunch. A few hours later, I walked into the hall and started gagging and nearly passed out! Yes, she had kindly sprayed, but that just made it smell like orange death! It took about half an hour for the cloud to clear!

Blech...

Do you suppose they rinse off the tongs before putting them back in the kitchen drawer?

Immediate POST OP Hygeine question (possible TMI)

And here, the poor doc is trying to warn her but does she listen?

so, please be honest with me about this

I know everybody poops, but......come on. They are a little hung up on bowel issues.

I guess the DSer's arms get tired from having to wipe so often...LOL

Heeheehee........

I wonder if she used "just a drop" or "poo-pouri"?!?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
