Fill Decision - please help!

Recommended Posts

OK so here is my dilema. I have been thinking over the past few weeks that I need a fill. I started the process at my doc's office and got approved to get one last week and I am scheduled for next week 4/1. NOW after I am scheduled I am suddenly having several incidents of PBing/stuck kind of situaton and I hadn't had the problem in over a month. My period is due next week and I have had a ton of stress in my life over the past couple of days. Also, I am sometimes able to eat a ton and sometimes not able to eat anything. Possibly I am not being as careful as I should because I know I am looser. 2 Questions: 1) am I jumping the gun on a fill and 2) am I insane to be getting a fill just before my period? In the past I have not noticed any change in restriction around my period.

Thanks for the input!

Stress causes my band to tighten up . I also can get so tight before/during my period that I have to go on liquids. I would say if this is still the case you might want to reconsider and put the fill off ? Or discuss it with your doc ?

Are you close to your docs office ? My follow ups are free for the first yr so it might not be a bad idea to go in and talk to him about it and the 2 of ya'll can decide together in his office ? In the mean time i would really pay attention to yourself and how your eating , make sure your following the "Rules" and make sure that's not an issue .

Thanks for your input. My fills are completely covered by my insurance so that is not an issue for me. THe problem is that the doctor is going away for a few weeks and I may not be able to get in until the end of April.

I guess I will see where I am at next week. I am not worried about being totally closed off or anything because the fills are done under the floroscope.

you can still be too tight under Flouro . I have all mine done under Flouro and still have had 2 unfills. Yes it keeps you from being totally closed. But you can still get TOO tight and have to go back for an unfill. With your doc being out of town what's going to happen if you need one ? My Fills dont typically kick in for 4-7 days after my fill . So i dont even find out im too tight until then. I have since learned after those 2 unfills that I dont tolerate 1cc fills I have to get .5cc fills. So dont let flouro be a false sense or security for you .

Its not a magic ball. It that makes sense its a tool. You might be better off waiting .

I definately hear what you are saying. I am not worried about not being able to get an unfill b/c my surgeon works in a practice and one of his partners could alway unfill if neccessary. I do think I need an adjustment - I guess I will just try and really do a good assessment over the next week and reschedule if needed.

I still struggle with " do i need a fill or do i wait "

its such a back and forth game .

good luck . I hope it goes well

So interesting because today I made a real effort to drink all my Water and I was able to get about 9-10 glasses in. I think I was tight because I was dehydrated. Completely hydrated I feel almost no restriction.

Could be also this is not true for everyone but barometric pressure affects my band (also causes Migraines for me ) stress causes my band to get tight my TOM affects the band . It changes from day to day unless im at the point where i have just lost so much weight I just have none left and im so loose and gotta have a fill. Then there is no stopping me ! LMAO

Good luck

Very weird ... this entire fill thing. Every time I think I understand what is going on I learn something new. Anyway, I am glad I scheduled the fill now!

Someone shared this link before, but it I think it really gives good advice on a "good fill". I'm going to try it before my next fill, my next fill will make fill #10 for me, so I'm hoping to get to that sweet spot, I'm really close!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
